UPDATE:   For those that ordered the UMC custom bullet mold from David Mos ... my 2 March payment checks were not cashed - bank refunded payments.  Sent a PM to Mos 3 days ago for status of molds ... no reply to date.  So I called him today and he answered the phone.  Is feeling better - fired 8 doctors - is in the shop today making blocks - will start cutting the small calibers first - a FLEXIBLE time frame, the UMC molds will be shipped in 3 weeks.  So I cut another check for payment of the 2 molds I ordered

I have heard from David Mos he sent me a personal message on this site. Telling me to expect my mould soon. I have to admit that I had lost faith in him ever sending my mould, yet I held out and didn't order one from anyone else in hopes that I would be wrong. Things in life can be disableing. I sincerily hope the best for him.

We are seeing our molds arrive - I cast up 50 the other day and have them loaded and ready for testing.

Baja Traveler,
Nice looking boolits. Can you please post the specs?

I just got a really nice Stevens 45 that was originally a 22.15.60 but relined to .22lr. I'm thinking of having it rechambered back to the 22.15.60 but the groove diam. will be undersized (.223) rather than the .226.

Looks like the Mos mould you had made might be the ticket for me.

Thanks.

what are the specs, case and bore/groove and twist on the 22.15-60?

Looks like Dave is working on the backlog starting with that 22rf group order.  makes a certain amount of sense so he can get the maximum production out of that one set up.

I'm guessing that those of us who have ordered and paid for custom one-offs are going to have to wait a little while longer.

At least moulds ARE being made and shipped,  a VAST improvement over a few months ago

Moshannon -

The mold # is KT22LR

My .22's are dropping from the mold at .2245" Dia x .470" long using basically a Lyman #2 alloy. The heel is .084"

Pan lubed they weigh in at 43.2 grains

The assembled .22 (using 4.5gr Swiss 4f) is an even 1.000" +/- .002"

Thanks Baja.
Cases will have to be custom from RMC to match up to a heeled bullet. According to Grant's books, the 22.15.60 had a 12 inch twist. From other threads here it seems like the groove diameter is at .226. My liner is .223 and I believe a 16 twist, but with the lighter bullet should work fine. I haven't measured the bore, I'm guessing it is right around .219. In the end it will be more along the lines of the Manard .22XL CF but with a much longer case at 2" rather than 1.156". Maybe a .22XXL?

So went to the range this morning for the big test day - it was packed! No room on the main range, so I was sent up to the pistol range. This limited my testing to only 50 yards this outing - no fancy benches, no sandbags - just my elbows propped on the pistol bench doing my best to stay still.
The first thing I did was insert a ring in the Lyman 17a front sight to match the 50 yard black. That worked awesome to keep me near exact on center. I made no sight adjustments to the williams rear - it started a touch high, so I just left it there.
My first 10 shot group in the upper left was with the Walmart bulk I used to shoot - it works well in this rifle at short range, but gets the occasional flier at 100 yards. Next was the aguila I'm shooting now in the upper right, short range about the same, but it maintains its group out to 100 yards.
Now comes the fun part - I fired 10 fouling shots in the lower right target. They are the ones that tended to string out to the left. Next I reloaded the 39a and placed 10 careful shots for score in the lower left target. I was nearly jumping out of my skin at the result - to say I'm thrilled with the results is an understatement! After that, I shot the remainder of the box back on the right target looking carefully for any accuracy fall off due to fouling. 50 shots and no loss in accuracy at all! I honestly think I could have shot another 50 no problem! Gotta get the pot fired up - next time long range testing at 100 and 200 yards!
Shooting black powder in a .22 is so fun! A nice small puff of black powder smoke - more black powder smoke wafting in my nose when I cycle the action - just like grampa used to experience!
I have to say the lube recipe given to me by an old geezer up at LASC is the best - 1 pound Beeswax, 1/2 pound Lanolin and 1/2 pound Canola Oil - all by weight. Works great in the 45-70, and now great in the .22

I was finally able to cast some bullets from my .25 DM mould Friday (life has been busy). They weigh right on the money-120 gr.

I tried them out after the match today (Saturday) in my 25-20 WCF. How do they shoot?  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley (Thanks J Louis for turning me on to AA4100).

Questions? I'm willing to share what little I know.
