Does anybody make a replica of the Ideal bullet seater. The one that the handle is angled from the bore and is adjusted but a nut on the back of the body, thanks Hank

Several years ago a man by the name of William Loos was making one and advertising in the old ASSRA News and Single Shot Exchange. I haven't heard anything about/from him in years, but that may be a starting point.

If you have one to go by, they aren't all that hard to make.  I have one about like original made for me by the late Charlie Dell, and another, that looks like it's on steroids since it is scaled up for .45-70, made by the late Jim Hallis.  They complement my original in .22 Hornet (!) quite nicely.

Bill Loos is alive and well, still in Rochester, NY.  He is still selling moulds and his current advertisement is for Aydt sights.  Best to give him a call during the week.  He is at gun shows on the weekends.  Bill doesn't have a hair trigger with emails  Wink

Don't hold your breath waiting for it, but I have to post a few pix of other things in the next few days, so I'll try to round them up in one place and get that picture posted as well.  It's an image I should have in my library anyway.

I bought one of Bills seaters. He is always at the upcoming Baltimor show. That is where I bought mine. He still had a few available he told me last year. But is/was running low. I want to say he told me he couldn't find anyone to supply him with the wood knobs any longer and the guys that would make them for him wanted a pretty penny to make them.

Tom,

I took the picture, but my new photo program won't let me shrink them down enough for the forum limit.  Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll shoot a picture off to you.

Froggie

Maybe this will work...

The top one is the original, the middle one was made by Jim Hallis of Roanoke Rifle & Revolver Club fame, and Charlie Dell made the bottom one (which was missing the shell for his .32-357 when I took this picture.)

As you can see, there isn't a whole lot to making them, once the shank has been welded securely to the sleeve through which the threaded rod is inserted.  HTH!

Froggie

PS  Sorry about the ^#@$* big picture!  Embarrassed

A word of caution here, if you make the plunger rod out of steel, braise the end of it 1/16 or more and re-machine it  or thread it into a piece of brass on the bullet end and locktite to insure that you don't damage the rifling lands. You can also use aluminum. Some will argue it's not traditional but, aluminum was commonly used for auto parts by 1900, so it was available.
