What is the going price on a brown Borchardt with a good bore running now? I have been looking for one for a project rifle.

Hello Mike,

As with many other old rifles price is dependant on rarity and of course, condition.

I have followed Borchardt prices for quite a few years now and would say that just a working action, that may need some restoration could run you 1,200 to 1,500 bucks.

A complete Military Rifle complete with original ramrod (Rare) in fair condition could easily set you back 2,500 US or more. Top of the range collectors specimens of Long Range Borchardt Rifles anywhere between 50,000 to 85,000 US Dollars.

A few people make modern reproductions of this action these days, and others have tried and subsequently failed.

Al Storey of the Borchardt Rifle Co. Silver City NM  Contact him for a price.

Joe Lozito of Lozito Associates New York. Very expensive with basic actions costing $3.500+. That does not include barrel, heat treatment, engraving or woodwork.

Argus Barker used to make them and may still do so on occasion but again they were very expensive ten years or more ago. Current address/ location unknown.

Artistic Arms of Hoagland Indiana used to make them but stopped production apparently several years ago. Their actions had a longer overall length than the original Borchardt due to a enlarged receiver ring.

Frontier Arms used to make Castings Kits of these actions, but no longer, you may find one if you advertise. I know of at least one member of this Forum that has one of these completed, it looks damn good too.

You may find an action cheaper somewhere but it will almost certainly require major restoration. Internal original parts haven't been available for over 90 years although I understand that Al Storey's parts are supposed to be interchangable.

Good luck

Harry

I picked it up yesterday. Full Military and not in too bad of shape. Owner was shotting cast sugs in it. Bore half way decent and a tight action. Butt stock has a crack at the action, and the rear sight is missing the elevator and a screw. I think S & S has the correct elevator and screw for it. Now the big question, keep it as is or go for a nice custom one. If I do custom I will not mill out the side panels. I like the action almost as is with the exception of the sling swivel.

So thats why I didnt get to see it!

First you have to post some pictures, so I can see it.  Roll Eyes

Okay, how much of your money do we get to help you spend on this project?    I'm leaning toward leaving it as is.   Is the cleaning rod correct?
