Another thread on the 4227 got me wondering....again. Any suggestions for IMR 4227 in a .22 hornet, both with FMJ and lead cast bullets? both in the 40 to 45 grain range. to be shot in a H&R 1871 buffalo rifle with a factory installed .22 hornet barrel.

Also, I want to double check advice/experience with the same powder in the 25-20ss with lead fixed ammo. 86 grn ideal bullet mold. Will shoot it in both an old maynard and an stevens 44.5.

Jon,

That old Maynard is an Eastern Gun. Wink  It won't be happy out there in the staging area for OZ!  Maybe you ought to box it up and send it back to VA for my loving caretaking.  Cheesy  I'll be interested to know how the 4227 loads work out for it, though.  Huh

Regards,
Froggie

Jon

4227 is all I ever used in my KHornet 40 Gr Jacketed bullets.  32/20 which is the same case as your 25/20 use 4227 for Cast plain base bullets too.  Of course you know I don't experiment much and always have it on hand.   It's never a bad choice for the small cases. My advice is to work up with a chronograph looking for consistent velocity minimum unburned powder in the bore

Hello, MerwinBray.  I have found the H4227 to be a bit more accurate in my Shillen barreled Borchardt.  I am using 7.0gr. with a 50gr. plain-base.
