One of thes just sold for $1,1488. There were mutiple bidders over several days. No meition if it had the box and papers. Any idea why? I would gladly sell mine for that with the box and papers. Most I have seen one sell for up to now is $500 to $600 NIB. Add said 1,000 made. I think it was closer to 10,000. One or at least two born every minute I guess.

Every now and again two hardheads bid against each other. You know the type "when I bid---I buy". It's funny to watch sometimes.

Late hit here but I am scanning the posts...Anyway, interesting about someone paying that much. I bought one with all the accoutrements a couple of years ago and paid like $400 and gave to my son for an heirloom gun. I just bought one for myself a few days ago on Gunbroker and paid $330 for it, granted it had some wear but the case and papers, not the carton came with it.  My informational contribution here is that the Blue Book says a 1000 made but I read two different issues of old American Rifleman and one article said 10,000 made and the other said 15,000 made. In any event I personally argue strongly that there had to have been many, many more than 1000 made because they show up all the time. In 1971 Savage ran a gatefold ad in American Rifleman about this commemorative. There were probably 200 million people in the USA at that time. Does anyone really think they only made a 1000 and sold them for $75 a copy!!  Okay, I am done. Thanks.

Very conservative estimate, based on what I've seen on ebay over the last dozen years.
