Matches in S.W. Missouri?

Just curious if any matches are held in my neck of the woods.  The range in Billings, Mo. shows affiliation to ASSRA, but I can't seem to locate any further information other than high power stuff and rimfire matches.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Surrounding states of Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma will be well worth the drive.  Thanks. Bob

Welcome Bob,
I can't help you with shooting but, I spent a lot of my younger days untill the age of 15 near Southwest City MO. My grandfather had a farm just below the border. It's one of the places that I started shooting. Lots of flying squirrels on the farm.

Bob,

Keep me posted!! I just relocated from Virginia to Kansas City and am itching to get out and meet some fellow single shot lovers. I know of one who lives about 15 miles from me but I haven't contacted him yet. If there is a schuetzen match to be found he will know of it.

I have talked to one club out here, on the MO side, that has a lot of interest but no one to pull it together. I may just do that. I am supposed to go  out and meet some of them and shoot in a .22 match or two and see how it goes. Wish me luck!!

BTW, I am game for BPR, tradtional schutzen, muzzleloader or anything else "old with no botl"!  Smiley

And some of the ASSRA rules type shooting to the west of you is:

Tommy Mason's Stars & Stripes International Bench Shoot at Nine Mile Falls, Washington.

and to the north of you is:

the Alberta Schuetzen Guild ASSRA rules RKS International Bench Shoot at Spruce Grove, Alberta plus the monthly Club (non ASSRA Club) ASSRA rules  shoots shot during the winter.

Happy to have you come shoot with us.

Tim,

BTW, Give me a little time to find a venue!! I am seeing and hearing a lot of chatter from single shot enthusiasts! I will do what I can to make it happen. And if you can make it, well, all the better!! lot's of god historical things to see west of the mighty mississip!!

All, even thought this wasn't my thread, I am fully taking advantage and thank you all for the info!!

Jon -

My goal is to take at least one single shot rifle for prairie dog hunting May/June this year.  (We shoot from 100 out to 350/450 yards.)  Cast bullets are cheap shooting and getting the accuracy up to snuff is the name of the game.

I'll be driving up to Cedar Rapids and then we'll be driving out to S.D.  (You're invited if you want to come too.)  Memorial Day weekend.

Are there opportunities for P.D. hunting out your way?  That would shorten our trip immensly!

Tim,

About 12 years ago I visited my second cousin, Norman, who lives in an extremely rural area of middle KS. Place called Ash Valley, where my Father started life. He had 300 acres of cattle back then. He showed me a muzzle loader he built from scratch/parts. Cut and shaped the stock out of a local tree, I think it was osage orange IIRC, AKA, Hedge Tree.
He used a modern smokeless barrel and loaded with smokeless powder. He built this gun for one purpose. Prairie dogs. He said he could pick them off at 200 all day with that gun. I never got to shoot it. He loaded a spitzer/spire cast bullet in it.

I can try to see if any of my family still has land, or need. Most have retired or sold out to the bigger corps.

Please keep me up dated on that trip! Iowa isn't too very far! (at least when you are traveling half way across the country!) .22 hornet acceptable for such endeavors?
