help identify Winchester barrel wt.

I have an original Winchester 1885 barrel. It doesn't have the barrel wt. # stamped on the bottom like most of them. Please help me to identify the size/weight of the barrel.
It is 28 in. long. 1 1/8 inches dia. across the flats. And, 1 inch across at the muzzle.

Also, If anyone knows what this means please share. On the bottom of the receiver there is a very small number 17 stamped. It is on the front of the receiver near where the forearm is attached on a sort of triangular flat space of the receiver's bottom. Other Highwalls I have only have a dot or on one of them there is two dots on this flat spot. Is this an inspection number?

I agree that it sounds like a #4 barrel.

For what it is worth, I have a low wall that was shipped in 1906 that has a "17" stamped in the same place.  I always assumed it to be some kind of inspector's mark.

Most of those marked with a 17 that I've seen were .22's.  Take your forearm off and see if there is a cutout on the right side of the barrel as you look downrange for the kicking extractor.  Bob

(Old Wim ) Nothing there, The barrel was originally a 40-70ss, it has been relined and converted to 40-50ss.  This was done by taking some off of the breach area rethreading and cutting a new dovetail into the under side of the barrel for the main spring.  It has CSDS triggers, and is set up for breach seating.
