Anyone Shooting Heavy Bullet Loads in .32-20?

During the course of a conversation at a gun show this past weekend, a guy suggested that instead of building one of the .32 Miller cartridges as a Schuetzen rifle, I consider a .32-20.  He stated that the capacity was about the same as the .32 Miller Short and that some folks were getting quite satisfactory results using breech seated 200 grain bullets out to 200 yards.  If forgot to ask him what barrel length and twist they were using.

Anyway, have any of you experimented with this and if so, what kind of results did you see?

Thanks.

Are you talking about the 32-20 offering by CPA with the case blownout to accept .321 32 cal. bullets?

.308" bullet in front of a 32-20 case.  200 gr. modified Lyman 311299 (gas check shank reamed out) breech seated in a Ruger No. 3 with a 12" twist barrel from Dan Pedersen, (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links); Been using 13.0 4227, will be experimenting with AA 4100 and Alliant 300MP as soon as the range is open for the season.  Snow last week has turned to mud today.   Grin  (It's always something!)

David:

What kind of velocities are you getting with those loads?  Does it stay supersonic out to 200 yards or does it cross the sonic barrier at some point?

No chronograph, so really don't know.  My loads are very similar to published loads I've seen for .32 MS with similar bullet weights, that are listed as being supersonic, so my SWAG is that mine are as well.  I've gotten quite a few sub 1/2" 100 yard groups, I don't have a 200 yard range to work on regularly, so my skills at that distance leave something to be desired.

That bullet shoots good in my 12 twist 30/30 wesson. Martini My 30/30 Win. 10 twist uberti highwall and M1 garand like it also with the gas check. I paper patch it to .314 for my 9.5 twist 7.7 Arisaka.  About 1600 is a good velocity.
