- sponsor and host an interantional ASSRA every year when ASSRA does not want to sell me targets as a non-member

FYI;  According to the current Target Sales person, this is no longer the case.  At least, when I asked him a few months ago, that restriction no longer exists.
I understand you have criticisms of the ASSRA... as a member (who agrees with some of them), I humbly ask that you make a periodic note of those issues that have been RESOLVED.

At the time we wanted targets the rule existed. Since we could not get targets we printed up our own supply. Eight years worth to make the printing economical;  so we will not be able to support ASSRA through the purchase of targets now until about 2020.

That is what happens when you throw out restrictive practices; members go elsewhere. Unfortunately the harm has already been done even though it has since been resolved.

A fair point, sir...
Let me put forth some food for thought;
If grudges over past practices have no expiration date,  why SHOULD the ASSRA change anything, ever?
Just as legitimate grievances SHOULD be voiced (a lot more politely than some other folks are doing), should not also people whose grievances HAVE, however belatedly, been addressed, not also eventually admit so?

I'm not saying everyone should "kiss and make up"... but it seems to me that over the last year, several of the issues most often cited by people as reasons for their dissatisfaction with the ASSRA have been addressed, most publicly so.  Where is the acknowledgment?

Speaking more broadly; here we have a PROPOSAL... a very clear one.
Now wild accusations fly of "cutting non-members out of the forum"...
On the other side of course, we have folks with limited abilities to be civil as well, so there's room for improvement on both sides, I grant...

It makes me wonder; why would ANY member of the Board bother to solicit opinions on ideas for the Association if the replies are this sort of bitter vitriol (rather that schutzendave's very well thought out and polite discussion, I would add...)?
Were I on the Board, I would be inclined to ask myself "What purpose does this forum serve in furthering the goals of the ASSRA?".

with respect to all;
Paul F.

ASSRA members
Tell me is this how YOU ALL feel towards non members,or is this just one unintelegent individual. I have no concerns as to how you run your orginization. The majority of your members are mentaly stable.
I am gratefull for what I have learned here and been able to share. In the future I will only direct my posts to shooting and gunsmithing. If you want a cleaner image you have to remove some garbage.
Best of luck

If you are talking about Old Center Shot's posts...
I would be very surprised if he mirrors more than a very small percentage of members opinions... but I don't speak for anyone but myself.
I can't say I approve of his delivery, no matter what his opinion.

This whole post seems spiteful, and more about retribution. A few people make some unkind remarks about ASSRA, and it turns into a threat to ban folks from selling here.
Sorry state of affairs that doesn't look good to any newcomers to this site. A little embarassing too. I'm embarassed to see grown men name calling like a bunch of school kids.

Membership? Membership is being brought up. Is membership in the ASSRA going up, down or sideways? I would like to know, really. Can someone tell me? If it's going down or sideways just what are we old farts going to do with all the good stuff we have collected. Would like to think some kid could wander into this polite society and find some nice stuff for sale and buy it with only the pains provided by fed. and state regs..
Andy
P.S. I would like a ASSRA baseball cap.

WOW!

Jim & Josh this is not what this site was originally created for!

When the MSN site was eliminated there was group of shooters and I can count them on both my hands without out having to revert to using my toes that were extremely interested in achieving the best accuracy possible within ones limitations in multiple Schuetzen disciplines. Thanks to Josh Borton's computer talents this site came to fruition and I dearly thank him for all that he has done on our behalf to make this dream come true.

With that being said it would not hurt my feelings one bit if you were to pull the plug on this site and let those who harbor more knowledge develop a site that they feel would better suit everyone's needs!

It is starting to sound like a planning session at the lady's club.   Undecided

I have purchased several things for the for sale listings and I have never had a problem.  Often items were shipped before the seller received the check which is a very pleasant experience in these BS filled days.  On the other hand I have seen some stuff posted in the for sale listing that have made me cring.

My introduction to ASSRA came about by hearing about it from someone at the range.  I checked out the forum and saw there were a bunch of people interested in the same thing I was, most with extensive knowledge and experience.  I joined ASSRA almost immediately.

I have read a lot of nasty comments about ASSRA around the web and it quickly became clear to me that I just missed the big blow up.  I regret that that happened because this segment of the shooting sports needs to be kept alive.

The only way we will recover from the past errors, if any, is to carry ourselves in such a way that our actions match our words.  There is a balance and rather than rehashing the past we should look for creative soultions that encourage participation.

Here are some ideas that might take care of some of the concerns.  We could allow full forum privleges for a period, say 90 days, and if the new person likes what he sees he would be required to join ASSRA to continue full privleges.  Or we could allow a limited number of for sale postings to non-members per year.

And ladies, remeber just because we are on the internet doen't mean we shouldn't act like gentlemen when addressing each other.  Friendly jibes are fun but nastiness is unacceptable.

Dave;
All quite reasonable ideas, worth some civil discussion!

I honestly don't know if limited the for-sale board would be to the benefit of the ASSRA.
I suspect that the idea is to "sweeten" membership by having the for-sale section be a perk of membership.  Perfectly reasonable... I don't know how effective, but it's a reasonable plan.

I rather like your idea of a limit to the number of sales (per month? per year?) of non-members, rather than being ONLY for members.
May make it harder to moderate/manage though.
