Slumlord44,

Any pictures available?

There was a decent one in 25 RF at the Cedar Rapids, IA, gun show a couple of weeks ago that had an asking price of $1,800 on it.  Don't know how correct is was, it was way beyond my budget anyhoo!   Roll Eyes

Edit:  Should have said that there was a guy "advertising" a Ladies Model...I don't know enough about all the Stevens variations to confirm what he said... Wink

Slumlord, No such animal! The #55 Ladies model was based on the Favorite action, the #56 was on the 044 action. Leroy Merz has one on line for , I believe, over 2 years. I think it's a #55 & the price is a killer if I remember correctly. I would go for the #56 before a #55. #56 calibers go up to 28-30-120.   Good Luck,  ...MIKE...

Mad Mike
We are both acutaly right. Hate it when Stevens switches model #s around. Checked my old catalogs. The 44 #55 was in the catallogs from 1900 to 1907 at least. Favorite Ladies Model not in those catalogs. 1911 through 1914 catalogs show Favorite Model 21 Ladies Model Model #56 Ladies Model that apears to be a 44 1/2 or rather a 044 1/2. This one is marked 55 on the front of the frame. Near as I can tell the checkering pattern on the Favorites was different than the 44 1/2 also. This one is a 44 Ladies Model. So what is it worth? Looking at $2000 range. I am thinking this is actualy a good price if I can get it for that. Just looking for some confirmation.

Slumlord44,
The Ladies #55 is absolutly build on the Favorite sized receiver it is not a #44 size reciever. I had one that I restored a few years ago. Stamped with 55 on receiver front. Some even have a slip fit barrel.

I asked for the frame thickness on this rifle, he stated it to be 0.861" thick. Why he chose a private response instead of public I don't know. That size frame would make it a Favorite

Even so at $2000 its still a good buy. The Ladies Rifles are few and far inbetween. And quite nice looking. With it in .22, whats holding you up making a decision.. Grin     Don

I have a fairly large collection of Stevens Ladies model rifle. I don't think I'd sell any of them for $2000. The 55 was made on a Favorite action.

Thank you all for the input. I went over my catalog reprints again late last night and took another look. Weight of the rifile is the tipoff that it is on a Favorite action. This is the first one I think I have seen on line. There is curretly one in .25 RF out there also. The only one I have ever seen in person was a Favorite Ladies Model at Louiville several years ago. I think the guy wantd $3,500 + at the time. It was a beautiful gun. The only thing holding me back is the money. There is a bid on it now. Not sure how far to go with it. $2000 would have been a deal if no other bids. Not sure how far it will go in todays economy. I have two rentals empty and another going empty the end of the month and am going on vacation in the near future. The economy is not good. Neat rifle though. Will post end results tomorrow night.

Rustyrelx was the final winner at $2616. I was in the bidding for a while at the end but chickened out around $2500. Ssrifles was in on it till the very end. I think anything under $3000 was a good deal myself. I actualy like bidding against people who know the product being auctioned and know the current market. The bidding usualy does not get out of sight then. What I always hated at live auctions was some individual who did not know the market and had more money than sense. When I was buying a lot of antique furniture years ago I always was comfortable bidding against the dealers because they would hardly ever go above the actual market value on an  item. Some of the amateurs would pay some crazy prices on occasion. Enjoy your new toy, Rustyrelx and let us know how it shoots.

That is a very nice rifle and I thought seriously about bidding on it, but I figured for the amount of money that it would sell for I could buy a new CPA .22.

Besides, I was conflicted.........

Do you have to wear a dress to shoot a "Ladies" model?????

Yes it should be a very nice rifle. I was bidding for my shooting partner who collects Stevens. He does have several other 55's and he had seen this rifle 2 years ago in Florida. Asking price at that time was in the high 4k's  so he passed on it. I saw that the hanging price was in the middle 4k's on the auction site, so at this price it was good. Besides he's pretty dedicated on Stevens. I like them too and am wanting a #49 that I can afford. Well what is important one of the followers of ASSRA ended up with a pretty fine rifle. Smiley

Glad it found a good home even if it wasn't mine. And the search goes on....
You mentioned Floridia? The one I looked at a few years back belonged to a guy from Floridia. I bought a realy nice 44 1/2 in .22 Long Rifle from him. Nice guy. The Ladies Model was out of my price range then. May have been the same gun. Small would. Need to compare notes on Stevens with you guys sometime.
