Simplex die dilemma

Good Morning:

I recently acquired a delightful BSA small action (Cadet) set up as a .17 Hornet.  With it, I got brass and a set of Simplex dies.  The dies are 5/8" in diameter, the same as Lyman 310 dies, but are of a different (and unknown to me at this time) threading.  I have an RCBS press that I use when reloading.  Needless to say, this combination just does not work.

Can any one out there tell me of a source of an adapter so I can use the Simplex dies in my RCBS press?  Or, will I have to have one made?

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ed

EdBu any competent machinist should be able to make an adapter for you if they have one of the Simplex dies, might be easier and faster  to buy a set of CH4D dies.

Did some looking online, and the Simplex 5/8" dies appear to be size 5/8-14.  If so, it would be easy to make up an adapter.

EdBu, I also have a few 310 Martini cadet rifles and have the Simplex conversion collar to allow the dies for them to be used in my RCBS press, will have a look when I get home  and see if it has a makers name on it. I always believed they were made by Simplex, regards Aussie Hunter

Aussie_Hunter, et ai:

I found Simplex reloading gear, including an adaptor at Jansa's in Sydney, I believe.  I should have one in a week or two.

Aussie Hunter:

If you want an education in American Cadet pricing, take a look at Gunbroker.com and search "martini".

Original Cadets in good condition often bring more than $500. Customized Cadets can go for twice that if well done and more if there's a Lyman Targetspot, Unertl or similar type scope attached.  There's a nicer .17-222 that's been there for while with an opening bid of $1500 and a buy it now price of $2500, down from the original buy it now price of $3000.

If you search the closed auctions for the last six months or so, you'll find a number of other custom Cadets that sold.  Most went for over $800.

Your note of the 24th completely slid under my radar!

I concur with Remington 40X.

The last customized cadet I got off Gunbroker was a 30-30 with excellent wood and a classic Weaver variable scope.  I snagged it for $550.00 on a buy- it- now the first couple of hours it was offered.

I have seen much better cadet (as issued) prices on the Australian Antique Arms Auction.  Can't wait for their next catalog!
