.22 L.R. Pope chamber C'bore

Hello, I am going to have to get a camera!  I was looking over the Pope barreled B.S.A., and was checking out breech area.  I noticed the c'bore for ctg. rim is about .030" wider per side than head of case.  Now these martini actions can't be un-cocked like a hammer gun, must pull trigger while closing block.  & this one has very light pull.  I was wondering if Pope put this extra clearance in there for a reason...perhaps to prevent pin from hitting chamber edge if accidently dry-fired?  What do other Pope rimfire chamber c'bore's  look like?  Thank you.

Normally, that won't keep the pin off the rim c'bore. Usually you have to put a divit in that part of the chamber to keep that from happening. Most firing pins protude more than the thickness of the 22rf rim.

Many old rimfires were made that way. I know Pope's and other originals had the same thing. I have a factory Stevens barrel. It's the same way. It's just how they did it.

Maybe in those days tolerances were quite a bit bigger in cartridge manufacturing...

My 13/15 and MKll martinis both have the divit for dryfiring at 12:00.
there is no extra clearance around the rim.
