Lyman sight for a Stevens Favourite

My wee Favourite has a Lyman that is marked for the Winchester Singleshot
Now a chance to buy the correct one has come up, worth the effort and what sort of price difference would there be between the two?

ray,

Are you referring to a tang sight? Or?

Tang sights, Lyman Combination
The one being offered is marked F, while the one on my Stevens Favourite is marked S (I think as it is a while since I had it off)

ray,

The Stevens and Winchester SingleShot tang sight bases have different lengths, and different respective mounting hole spacings.

Has the Win S sight base been modified to fit the Favorite's 1.5" spacing, or was an extra hole drilled in the Favorite tang to allow mounting an unmodified Win S sight that has a 2 & 3/16" hole spacing?

Or perhaps the S letter code is something else?

Yes the S one has required an extra tapped hole wich I think the correct sight will cover

Any more questions and I will have to dig the Favourite out of the safe but keep asking if it helps with answer

If you have enough adjustment on the staff to sight it in properly I would not change it unless you just really want the correct sight on the gun for your own satisfaction.

ray,

If the sight on your Favorite is stamped with the S code, and going from your pictures, then the Winchester S sight base was shortened and the rear hole redrilled to fit your rifle. This would mean it is now too short to mount properly on the original Win model 1885 rifles. I have to agree with Mike and slumlord44, if it works, use it as is.

Thank you gentleman, for your help
You are correct BP, it must be a shortened base
I had the answer in my safe, when you compare the Favourite with the Singleshot it is quite clear the S marked sight would not fit the screws holes of the M.85
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

I  checked the base on the Winchester M. 85 sight and it is marked WM  which is correct for the  Musket
