.22 L.R. extended range shooting

Hello, everyone.  I don,t mean to keep beating a dead horse, but what is the longest distance you have shot a .22 L.R.?  Since it has been said a .22 at 200yd. is equilivant to a .45-70 at 500, would a .22 at 400 be equal to 1000yds?  I have some data for the old creedmoor .44 ctgs. I thought since .44 is double .22 it would have more meaning..maybe i am all wet.  .44-77 Sharps/Rem. .446 dia. up to 470 gr.  one 365gr. load had MV 1460fps.
.44-90 .446dia.P.P. 520gr. MV1270fps.
.44 Rem. spec. .442 PP 550gr. MV1250
.44-100 Ballard  535gr. P.P. 1400fps.
Finding ranges much over 200yds. are a problem..maybe a side match at BPCR silhouette match?

I shoot NRA outdoor Prone.  Once a year, we shoot a prone 200yd Match on standard 200yd NRA targets. Of course we are shooting smallbore bolt action target rifles, any sights.  The match is usually won with a score 195-198 out of 200-20x possible.
I have seen match programs from the 1940 era that listed a 300yd course  of fire.  I have never shot a .22lr at that range.  At 200yd most scopes and iron sights  are at maximum elevation.  A change in bases would offer more elevation.

Hello, and thanks for reply.  I wasn't thinking about max. elevation..this would be limiting factor.

Our High power range has steel targets to 600 meters.

Have shot one of my CPA's with the rimfire barrel out to 300. Couple of problems though you can't hear the steel ring when hit with the little bullet and most of my rifles don't  have enough sight elevation to zero. CPA with its switch barrel and mid range tang can zero

Spotting paper holes is impossible at 300  but paint the steel white you can see the bullet splashes real good through a spotting scope. My opinion 200 with the 22 can be usefull pratice anything longer it's more luck than skill due to the difficult spotting.  Of course High power shooters use .223's to 600 all the time and some use the 22 to 1000. They have pits and pulled - marked targets though

Hello, and thanks for reply's!  I spoke with Dave Crossno, he said last summer he did quite a bit of shooting at 500m..surprising  accuracy with calm winds and good spotter.  There is the Wastenaw range about 50 Mi from me that has 600....don't know if I could use it or not..not a member..However,  it has pits,  & with the very high traj. of a L.R...I wonder if it would be dangerous in there?

I used to take my 52D to the KD range at Ft Gordon.  Drove the microbus, took a friend and my bicycle.  Put a standard man-sized sillouette at 200 yds.  Cranked up the sight all the way and aimed at the neck/shoulder line.  HEARD the clinks.  Clinks?  It was carboard!  Biked out to check the target - the bullets were hitting the angle iron brace along the bottom of the target.  Should have done some groups.

We have a group of guys thats shoot 200 yds offhand every Monday ( warm weather only). The target is an NRA SR42. The match is 20 shots. Some use hi vel, most use Std Vel match 22LR. A winning score is generally 165-175 x 200. Difficult shooting so say the least. We do work with a pit crew.

My sons and grandsons shoot at 200 yds quite a bit.  I had one each of the 22 silhouette targets made up, so they would hang from a metal stand.  We stick the stand in the ground and hang the target.  When hit you can see it move and hear the hit.  Plus it is very portable.  We shoot standard velocity 22 ammo.  My grandsons shoot Jr. class at BPCR silhouette, the 22 shooting is a very good teaching aid for shooting and target spotting.  It is also great in its own right.
We shoot the ram target to 250 yds.  At 300 things get shaky.  With the MVA scope setup or the venier sight, elevation is not a problem.

Not sure what 'extended range' might be, but the first Saturday morning of each month, Mar - Dec, the Quinton Sportsman Club in Quinton, NJ (south end of the state) has a 200yd .22LR silhouette match (chickens @50, pigs @100, turkeys @150 & rams @200). Open to any legal .22LR and split between scoped and iron-sights. Great fun and a real pisser when you hit a turkey or ram and it doesn't go down. Off-hand at 50 and off sticks for the other three. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Includes lunch and an afternoon shoot, if there is enough interest.

On pits with high trajectory cartridges,

You have to check them.  When we first shot 45/70 Trapdoors on the NC National Guard Range they had us put paper behind the targets and just above the pit's to see were the strikes landed, No one n the pit when testing.  It was considerably lower than 30 cal's but still impacting the berm behind.  Fear was if one caught the concrete back wall of the pit it would ricochet around were people were sitting. From memory only the 45/70 mid range is 43 feet high so it's coming down with right much angle

Don't take anything for granted find out were the bullet is impacting before putting someone down range.

With all the new electronics ought to be a way to monitor bullet strikes without putting people in the pits.  How about a laptop behind a steel plate pointed at the target, call it up on skype from the firing line.  Simple home security systems are now avalbable at low cost with camera's too.

SSShooter that sounds like fun.  Hope to see some of it in Pa, it might be here, just not aware of it.  The targets that I have are the ones for BPCR style silhouette, not the 40 to 100 yd style.
