I need to make some 38 50 everlasting cases, and have all the dimensions except the inside diameter and depth of cartridge. Can anyone help me out with these dimensions.

Yep, I've got several original  .38-50 Ballard everlasting shells I can measure for you. Case wall thickness varies from .018" to .020" .

I also need to know what you mean by depth. Do you mean the interior depth from case mouth to case web around the flash hole? That is 1.786". If you mean overall case length. Mine measures 1.984". Cartridges of the World says it should be 2.000"

Or do you mean .38-50 Remington? Don't know if those exist.

Hope that helps.

One of my cartridge books says , if you can find some 9.3X72R  {not Sauer] brass and size it down to 38/50 Ballard it will have the same interior capacity as the old Everlasting case, which was 42 grains of water, the 38/55 brass is 52 grains. The 32/40 Ballard ,at 45 grains, held more black powder than the 38/50 Ballard .  ledball

The .375 Winchester is Marlin Ballards old 38-50. Not positive about case capacity though. This is assuming you are talking about Ballards and the Marlin Rifle Co. If Remington then I don't know.  The case capacity has gotten smaller since the origional cartridge due to thickness of case. An "everlasting" case is the term used for the thicker case from once upon a time. What we use today.   Don

If you are making a bunch to use I agree with rustyrelics. Just use .375 Winchester and alter as needed to fit your chamber. A lot less work then turning and probably will last longer. I never had as good luck with turned cases as with drawn cases.  I think that you will find the conversion of the .375 Winchesters a much more pleasant task then turning 50 or 100 cases from bar stock.

Maximum case dept (assuming your machining them) should be case length minus .210, you have to have that much to make the primer pocket.

In the early days most of the companies had proprietary cartridges. Meaning they , the companies, sold the cartridges for their specific rifles. Just whose 38-50 are you talking about. AHA!!!! Are we supposed to guess what company?  All the companies made theirs a tad bit different so one would have to buy the cartridges from them.

Lets see, hummmmm
Marlin? Remington? Maynard as in Mass. Arms Co.?

Rustyrelx

The cartridge is for an original Ballard rifle. Sorry for the confusion.
