Does anyone have any information on a gunsmith with the name of
V Gibson? I have a high wall that was done by him and cannot find any info on him at all.
Thanks Bill

Hello Bill,

Are you completely sure about the spelling of the surname? There was a smith called Vernor Gipson (sometimes mis-spelt as Gibson who worked for the A.O.Neidner Corporation at Dowagiac, Michigan, starting work there in 1939.

The man who knows perhaps more about Neidner and his employees  is a Michael Petrov who you can contact through :- (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);

He is to be found on the second botton forum on the home page which relates to custom single shot an repeating rifles.

PM him with a complete description of your rifle and all the marking upon it

A photograph of Neidner and his workers, including Gipson is to be seen on page 42 of Mr. Petrov's book:- Custom Gunmakers of the 20th Century.

I hope this helps.

Harry.

You are right. I took a bright light and it is V. GiPson. Bifocals do that to me occasionally. This high wall is in 25 krag improved caliber. I will try to post a picture.
Thanks Bill

C.S. Landis has a chapter on Vernor Gipson in his 1951 book "Woodchucks and Woodchuck Rifles".  Pages 308 to 323.
