Who is the ASSRA designated #310 tool expert ?

Would you happen to know if the Lyman/Ideal Company ever cataloged and offered tool #310 style reloading die sets for the Stevens 25-20 Single Shot cartridge ?

I am wanting to avoid a search for something that may have never existed in the first instance.

Thank you for your help.      Wink

My quick referance says that the 25/20ss takes a #7 310 die

I'm not a expert on them but, I have it in writing in the #36 Handbook.

Thanks Frank,  you're more of an expert on the #310 tool than I am !   Smiley

Now, I shall begin my search to locate, and hopefully, purchase a set of 25-20 SS dies for my use.

CMM,

If you ask real nice I'll let you fondle the boxed 310 set of .25-20 SS dies I was able to accumulate in a big purchase of old 310 stuff about 15 years ago.  They really do convey a sense of true cool!  Cool  Of course I will be using them with my .25 cal Perfection Mould and an old set of Universal steel 310 handles that were only available 1 year!)

Remember my credo, if you can't look good on the target, you should try to look good on the bench!!  Wink

See you at the Sept CSV Match.

Green Frog,
Your going to make me bye a fancy expensive suit now Sad

But on the brighter side, could you post a pic of thoughs Univeral 310 handles? I have a set that I've never seen before there 25/35 Win. nickeled and they have the ends just like mould handles, instead of a mould. I haven't found them in any Ideal handbook. I'm wondering if they are the same as yours.

My memory is slipping, another 25 issue, but do I remember that the guy from the 310 shop had a run of 25-20SS dies made up. I remember our Green 310 guru writing about the shop and I seem to remember the news on the 25-20s but This could be just a blob of undigested potato.

I spoke to Rick a year ago. He said he would make a set for 2520SS.

  40-Rod

He had a production run of the 32-40 WCF dies for the #310 tool about two years ago, but if he did produce the 25-20 SS I was unaware of that taking place.

I was at his web page this morning and saw nothing in the way of 25-20SS, either original Lyman or his in house production.

I will probably give him a ring-up later and speak with him about my needing the Stevens variety of the 25.  He does list the Winchester repeater cartridge in that caliber.

frnkeore.....the universal handles that Green Frog notes are the same concept as the current alloy handles, but they are made in blued steel rather than an aluminum alloy.  They have the the screw-in adapter for different calibers and the adjustable hook for different rim sizes.  Green Frog is absolutely right, they were made for a short time only and while you can still find them, they do draw a crowd and the price is sometimes quite steep compared to the alloy handles.

And if you really want a challenge, try finding a set of these.....made for the "big guns", 50-70 GOV, 348 WCF, 8mm Lebel, etc.  These have the 11/16-30 threads vs. the 5/8-30 of the normal 310 tools.

The "LS" stands for "Large Special".......

What BPMax said.

frnkeore, the tool to which you refer is also very rare and with good reason... it has all the disadvantages of hand burning from the fixed type with the bullet mould made on and no real advantages.  It didn't last very long at all if rarity and lack of mention among collectors is any indication.  I have only seen a couple of mentions of them and none "in the flesh."

As for my review of the 310 Shop's dies, they were for the .32-40.  At the time, the former owner of the outfit was considering making a run of .25-20 WCF dies, among others, but I don't know whether anything ever came of it, and I have lost track since the new guy got it a few years ago.
