There is just something about single shot rifles that is adictive! Seems like I can get enough of them. I have centerfire rifles that will shoot in the .100s and have made kills to over 1000 yards with them, but these old rifles are just something that is dear to my heart. They are not as fast, or flat shooting. They don't pack as many foot pounds of punch, and then can be a finikey as a well fed house cat, but I just can't help but love them. The old Stevens 44 is a 32-40 that has my attention right now. She is fun to shoot, and learning to feed her what makes her shoot accurate is a courting that is pure pleasure. She's not the fairest of the rifles I own, nor is she even close to the most accurate, but she has a special quality that takes me back to a time when things were less complicated, and were more of what they appeared to be. There is something honest about single shot rilfes, and when you come to know them you know that they are as strong as the men that uses them and as weak as we the humans that have crafted them. They are Americana when America was what the world looked to as the measure of all. I submit a photo of my humble collection (a few of my single shots)  for you to review, and will take but one more pull on my jug of Jose Cuervo Especial before sliping off into dreams of finding Pope Schutezen rifles at garage sales. Good night Jose, where ever you are. Harry can you rebarrel my Stevens to 33-40 before the spring chuck hunting starts?

Modern High Wall in 32-40 with a Lyman #17 front and Lee Shavers mid-range Soule rear. Some day I'll have to take a couple of pic's of this and the Low Wall with a proper backdrop.

Here is a couple of pictures of a butt stock and foream  for a Winchester Low Wall I made from some firewood I got a few years ago.  It seemed a shame to burn it. It's American Walnut from a tree removed from my golf course.

That Hartford-Pope high wall is beautiful.

Here is my feeble attempt at photography with my 1919 1885 low wall with single-set trigger and Lyman scope. Have got to find a coil-spring Helm lever.

Not my gun but, I'm posting it because I believe it is a very unusual and rare factory High Wall.

Here is some pictures of my Brown standard  Military Long range rifle Serial number 6 of 18 built in 1883, I think this gun actually went to England and was used in the match in 1883 for thew Wimbledon Cup
