Some better close ups. The last two really didn't bring out the figure.

Dick,
That is beautiful wood, but looks like a nightmare to work. Ash is tough enough with the hard and soft streaks. Add the fiddleback and next to impossible. Excellent job. What stain did you use?

frnkeore;
I have a question regarding your collection of parts on #91.  Where did you obtain the triggerguard? Also the rear sight? I have a desire to build a percussion schuetzen and want to incorporate such a design.  Love what you guys have done with the TD action a work of art and a master of craftmanship.
A local gun shop has a perc schuetzen from the late 1880,s made by a smith from the chicago area a lot of european influence, but its been modified an is too pricey for what is left.  Smiley

Rapud,
I got everything that you see from Track of the Wolf back with the exception of the sight in '85. The sight I bought to adapt to my then redone RB, after mounting it, it proceeded to ring a good friends eye, blood and all. It's possible that Track may have had it but, it could have come from Dixie, too.

Hope it helps you,

Frank

Schutzenbob,
I do believe it is the same gunsmith as your photo.  Its around .40 cal, has a beautiful trigger guard that doubles as a palm rest, double set triggers and a Swiss type but plate.  No rear sight. Suspect the barrel has been cut down and someone put a Lyman rear sight on the barrel.  Price $2,250.
I have a match near the smith on Sunday I'll stop in for more details. Smiley

rapud,

George Beuttenmuller was one of a large family of gunsmiths in the Chicago area and was well known for his percussion schuetzen rifles, I believe that he was active in the 1840’s and 50’s, I’ve also seen a shotgun marked “Beuttenmuller Brothers, Chicago,” Dennis Hrusosky is the resident expert on these rifles.

Joe,

It's 44 caliber with a recessed muzzle for a round patch.

Schutzenbob;
Stopped at our local BP gun shop on Sunday after SS match.  The rifle he has on consignment was made by Rudolph Faas, Chicago, 1868-1875 period. Perc. .45 cal., .451 round ball and 1:42 twist.  Look similar to your photo, but all brass guard and butt, strongly Swiss in nature.  The most elaborate  and functional trigger guard I have ever seen, 1" wide.  Nice pewter end cap. No rear sight, every thing orig except front sight and rear lyman open sight.  Still  think $2150 too much.  Smiley
