	Not taking sides but, I have always believed that everyone has the right to be wrong and leave it at that. Life is too short to fight about someones opinion

	I love Soper single shots. They date from the 1860s and have a very complicated action which appeals to me. They were offered for the British military rifle trials that resulted in the adoption of the Martini Henry. It is claimed that the Soper would have won had it not arrived a day too late. It truth, they were way too finely fitted to be used by the military. One time, while shooting one of mine the breech block refuse to fully return to battery. I found a single grain of unburnt powder at the bottom of the receiver that caused the problem. On the other hand it hardly takes any effort for the side lever to swing the heavy breech block over while the extractor comes back. What is most surprising is that this action designed for one of the first centerfire cartridge retracts the firing pin on the very first movement of the lever. 	Thank you. In the next few weeks I hope to take pictures of some of my US made single shots. In recent years I've been concentrating on British single shots, but I still have some rare Stevens, Ballard, Winchester and Remingtons.

	OK, here's my chance to be the fool! On mine, if I insert the breechblock pin front to back it will slide foreward slightly due to recoil, whereas back to front it will be retained. Ever have that? BTW, nice pics- nice rifle, for which I would gladly swap 6 Martini Cadets, 6 Warsteiner Beers, and umm, my 6th kid. Have to hire the kid though-- Thanks! Doug

	2 kids are plenty for us. All 3 of my Sopers have the pin as pictured, but if yours works the other way around, you might as well leave it that way. I'm sure your right about the Snider.
