Agree with Slumlord on this one...the Stevens 44 is at max stress with hot 32-20 loads, IMO, and might be safe with "standard" .38 Special but not .357 Magnum loads.

Where you say 30-06 and 414, seems you might be considering a repeater?
Kinda off the single shot line here, but if you want to keep it in the Stevens / Savage family, look in to the Savage 99 lever rifles.

I have a 99 EG made in 1954 and had one made in 1953 (both in 300 Savage caliber) . BOTH keep 3 rounds of Federal Premium 150 gr. factory ammo in .7" or less at 100 yds, with a scope off sandbag rests.

There's a real following, and it may take you some time to learn about them and figure out what vintage, model and caliber you want--but try the 24 Hour Campfire site and the Savage Collector forum on it to learn more.
Really unique guns, came in everything from 22 Hi-Power, to 250 Savage, 303 Sav. 30/30, 300 Sav, 308, 358 and more.
Accurate as sin, handy, great deer guns if you want to go hunting too.
And, you get to make some modern bolt guns look silly on the range or at some shoots when you drag out a 50+ year old lever gun that hasn't even been modded.  Worked for me!
Good shooters will go you $400+ if you look, collector guns that haven't been altered much by Bubba will go you $600+
