I found a paige lewis model C yesterday with a perfect bore. No tang sight, but it has a threaded muzzle with a cap which appears original. Found a lyman that will fit in my "sack of stuff".

However, someone had replaced the butt stock with an abomination. Can someone provide the dimensions of the original so that I can recreate it?

The closest I can come is to measure up a Favorite & make one similar. Drilling for a cross bolt will be the hardest. The easy way is to laminate up 2 pieces with a saw cut in the middle to guide the drill.

The original stock was an abomination!  Roll Eyes  IIRC it was cut out of a piece of one by that looked like a stock in profile, but looked like a board from top or bottom.  The rifle was cool, nonetheless, and the Model C and the Olympic were the best of the bunch.  BTW, the muzzle was probably threaded for a (legal at the time of manufacture) silencer so you could shoot a snake in the hen house without disturbing the chickens from laying.  Wink

GF,
The "custom" stock that came with it had a pistol grip, cheek piece, & monte carlo, made of high grade pine, finished in dark paint. The one-by stock would be an improvement!

The Stevens #12 Marksman stock looks like it will fit with some modification and the 26 crackshot stock may also fit.

Howdy RJM,
My 81 year old father recently gave me a Paige Lewis Model C, in rather nice condition, that he has had for many, many years.  My stock is nicely contoured, and not shaped at all like a board. I'd be happy to give you the stock dimensions.
The lop is 13-3/8" from the front center of the trigger to the center of the plain steel butt plate.
The length along the bottom of the stock from bottom rear of the action to the toe is 13-3/8".
The length from the top rear of the action to the heel is 12-3/8".
It is 3-7/8" from the top  rear of the action to the center of the rounded comb of the stock.
The butt plate is 4-1/4" high and 1-5/16" wide.
The grip at the rear of the action is 1-1/8" wide, and tapers abruptly to action width in about 1/8".
In cross section, the stock is 1-1/4" thick at the point of the comb, and is a uniform 1-3/8"" wide from about mid-stock back to about 1" from the butt plate, where it tapers back down to the 1-5/16" width of the butt plate.
Drop at comb and heel from the center of the bore are 1-1/16" and 2" respectively.
The butt plate screws are 2-1/2" c-t-c, with the top hole being centered 11/16" down from the top edge of the plate.

Those are all of the dimensions that I could think of to measure for you.  If there is anything that I have omitted, please let me know. Best regards........Clint Meier.

I can send a picture of a Model B Sharpshooter if you like, I've never seen a Model C with the tang sight w/enough detail to tell if the sight is mounted on the stock or part on receiver and part on stock. If it's on the receiver then the frame must be a little longer since there in not room for a tang sight mounted on a Mod B

Clint & toolmaker,
That's exactly what I needed. All I had was small pictures - now I can put  the dimensions.

If the P-L had been made 30 hrs earlier, it would have given the Favorite & #4 Rem a run for their money. JMO

Thanks, Ron

Thanks, Mike & Aaron,

The one in Guns International, and in the picture 44spl sent confirm that the fore end on mine is original (sort of triagular shaped). The lever on mine & the G-I are one piece, while there are some that are fabricated from 2 pieces. My guess is they made these modifications on the fly in the production line.

Howdy TOOLMKR,
The tang sight on my Model C is held in place at the front by a short machine screw that goes down into the top of the short rear tang (really a side wall spacer that is a solid block of steel at the rear end of the action), and at the rear by a wood screw going down into the top of the stock's grip.  I'd post a picture of it, but even after looking in the HELP section, haven't been able to find any info regarding how to do that here.
Best regards.........Clint Meier.
