Hi, I'm new to this site and seeking wisdom.  Last year I picked up a project single shot Clerke rifle.  It was orginally chambered for 222 and someone rechambered it for 22/250.  I talked with Bo Clerke, the maker of the action.  He did not want to discuss much history on the action, only to say he went public, lost his majority, was bought out, and the compnay went broke.  He did sell me an unfinished barrel, 25 cal, which I had chambered for 257 Roberts.  The rifle is together, finished, and shoots well.  My problem is that I can't keep the finger lever up unless I hold it.  I've had the action apart about a dozen times, adjusted the spacer between the block and the ejector, and played with the position of a bent flat spring in the front of the action with no luck.  This action appears to be based on the coil spring Win high wall.  The coil spring high walls had a spring and plunger in the action which applied pressure to the finger lever, keeping it closed.  My action does not have this feature.  I talked with Bo Clerke again and asked him for some insight, but he said he realy couldn't remember.  Help.  Thanks

I own a Clerke High Wall, also. It was my first competion gun in 32/40. I used to shoot with Bo in the 80's at the Brea range in CA. HE dosen't have a lot of social skills LOL

My lever sags about 1/4 inch if I don't hold it up and is a little sloppy from side to side. If you haven't found your problem by now, I can look at mine and see what holds it up. I haven't shot it in 15 year now so, I haven't been close enough to it to remember anything about it. They are a very strong action though and a good gun. I would hesitate to buy one if the price was right.
