Hello – someone @ rimfirecentral suggested that I ask on this forum so here goes.  I am looking for a Stevens collector who can tell me more about this rifle.  See pictures below.  I have not been able to find another one that has this capped forend stock.  Is it original?  So far on RFC the opinion seems to be modified.  So I have removed the forend and added more pictures.  I also took pictures of the frame for case color details and the barrel which measures about 21 inches long.  I thought the barrels were longer?  On the question of the cap material – I think it’s wood.  Looks like it has worm holes.  The barrel is the original barrel – has matching serial number under the forend.  It’s a five digit serial number.  Oh and this rifle has been in my family since the 1940s so if there were mods other than the redfield sights which were done in the 1940s – it was done a very long time ago.  Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

I recall seeing a very similar rifle at indoor 4-position matches back in 1958 & 1959.  I was a teenager just starting out and I had never seen an old Stevens used in competition before.  The rifle I remember was transported in a very nicely made wooden case, with green felt lining.  I remember it had a scope, probably a Lyman, in the same box, along with a sling, a block for shells and a couple of boxes of ammo.   

One match that I recall was held in a long room upstairs of a local bank in Freeport, Illinois.  The host team was a bunch of old timers.  They all used single shots.
