I have this purtiful low wall in 45 colt  with 30" barrel, pistol grip and double set triggers. I'm currently shooting a 260gr Keith cast of 40:1 pushed along by 35gr of Swiss 1.5f. It is a stout load and that crescent butt plate will get your attention if it gets a running start at ya. It is very accurate and lots of fun to shoot. I have a Lyman 17a up front and a Marbles tang sight mounted.

However, I have a 360gr bullet that I'd like to experiment with and that leads me to this question. How strong are these low walls? I'm thinking the same charge or perhaps even starting at 30gr and working up.

I shot some of the same bullet (260gr) with 7.0gr of Unique and it is a powder puff (perfect for my 10 year old son Sam). I have some nasty Blackhawk loads of the same bullet and 18.0gr of 2400,but suspect they are too much for a low wall.

I was one of the views, and it was because the title included the words, "Low Wall."  I have never loaded a single round for 45 LC and anything I might say would be pure speculation or reporting second hand info, neither of which would help your cause significantly. 

I think you have found a pretty accurate load, and if it were me, I would tweak that one or work up the other load with Unique powder and the same bullet (which obviously your rifle likes) for a smokeless load.  Remember, this advice is worth what you paid for it (or a little less) and use it accordingly.   

I will say that the Uberti actions have the reputation for being a little more stout than the original low-walls, but that isn't an outright license to go wild.

Thanks for the replies.  Green Frog speculation is always fun.  Afterward, we could sit and lament that , "well it wasn't sposed to do that"

The loads with unique would be strictly rare as I shoot very little white powder.  I'm told by some other sources that I can't get enough Swiss in the case behind the 360gr bullet I want to tinker with to cause harm to the action.  One gent even said the low wall was engineered as strong as the high wall, but I'm not riding that bus.

I believe you misunderstood.  I'm not trying to develop Ruger loads at all.  I just mentioned them as sort  of thinking out about how I suspected they would be too much for the low wall action.  In my old  model blackhawk,, I have used 2400 with the 260gr Keith and agree it is a dandy choice of powder.  For some time I have used 35.0gr of Swiss 1.5f and it is very accurate producing ragged hole groups at 25 yards.
