Hi, I want to give you all a heads up about something that just took place, as many of you know I occasionaly sell antique guns on Gunbroker. Well, I almost got HAD. I wanted to be nice for a change and let International bidders bid, wrong idea. Boy oh boy wrong idea. The winning bidder was in the Netherlands, he even dropped several well respected names in the gun world, including Al Fresca and several others too. He had a Gunbroekr rating of 19+ A results for purchases so why should I be worried. Well, 1st off. He was the winning bidder and refused to pay by the method I indicated in the add, that should have forwarned me right there, but sometimes I guess I need a good old fashoned hard Knock to wake me up. He wanted a Wire transfer and said that is how he paid for all of his past purchases, So I was stupid and gave him my bank routing number and account number, I know, DUMB comes to mind. Anyway I realized the deal was falling apart when he demanded I lie on his Cutoms Form and put the declared value at $1,200. not the purchase price of $1625.00, this would have saved him a bundle on Import TAx. I refused. Then he did not like my method of computing the shipping snd thought I ws ripping him off. He wanted me to ship it the Cheap way which would have only allwowed 650.00 for insurance, not the needed 1625.00. The last email from him he accused me of Fraud so my last email back I told him to $$$$ OFF. And then after I relisted the rifle on gunbroekr and blocked him, and added that I will not accept bidders from out side the USA he bid again.
This is just a reminder too us all in doing buisness transactions be safe and not sorry. I closed my bank acount and got a new number from them. Gunbroker is now investigating him for FRAUD.

I still have my first deer rifle, and my moms rifles, and some of my dads rifles.  I have rifles that I dont know why I have um. It must be a mortal sin to sell a rifle. Not pistols or shotguns. It's okay to sell them. 

I was dropped on my head when I was little. It damaged the part of my brain that allows selling rifles. Cant remember what it's called something lobe. It's not a disease, it's a condition.

I'm another one of those guys who seldom sell guns.  I trade infrequently, but my place is mostly another of those black holes.

Most of us know that there are crooks out there.  They don't have to be foreigners.  Some peddle fakes that closely resemble valuable guns.  Some sell stolen property.  Some specialize in cheating widows and unwary estate executors.  Some will take in your guns on consignment and somehow never get around to paying you after the gun sells.  Others write rubber checks or pay in counterfeit money.  I have seen all that since I got back into single shots after the kids left home and their educations were paid for.  But if you say anything about it, you get sued.

Our best retaliation is simply to refuse to do ANY business with the crooks.  Make it obvious to your friends when you refuse.  There is no need to say anything in public. If enough of us let our actions speak for us, some of the more well-known crooks will be forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Heres one of my gunseller crook stories. 

I found #6 1/2 Rigby Ballard 38/55 at a gunshow. No price tag on the rifle. condition, complete with nickel plated frame and gold plated hammer and trigger, engraved. Bore was fair with no pitting but dull lands. I asked the price and the seller said 3200.00. I told him I'd take it soon as I got back from the bank. Got back from the bank with the cash in a bank envelope. Seller had the rifle in a soft case for me. I handed the envelope to him and asked that he count it. He did. I'm standing there with the rifle in my hand when he looks up and said, you made a mistake. I said huh? He said the price is 6500.00. I told him the price was 3200.00 and that he new it! heated words were exchanged, then a calm. Thats when he bent over and said I could have it for 5500.00. Then it dawned on me what he was doing. I told him that trick hadnt been pulled on me since I was in high school. 
I should have walked out of that place with that rifle. I took my money back and he got his rifle back. That was on a Saturday. When I got home I called a buddy and let him know what happened. He went to the show Sunday to see if he would do it again. There was a price tag on the rifle, 6500.00 My daughter was standing next to me when he offered the rifle for 3200.00. She heard him clearly also. 

So if you're at a gunshow and see an old shyster with old pistols on a wagon wheel,,,,,,,,,, beware!

Theres a term for the trick he pulled but I cant remember what it is.

You did the right thing by putting the brakes on the deal.  You set the conditions for the sale, he did not comply. Deal off.

When I was working overseas we used the wire transfer process several times.  It is a bank to bank transfer and is done via secure one time transaction codes.  One person does not have access to another persons account. Bank account numbers are not shared.  I had to get a wire transfer transaction number from the person who I was transferring money to.  I gave that number to my bank and  they transmitted the money credit to their international bank who transferred the money credit to the other parties international bank.  That international bank then transferred it on to it's client bank and using the the secure transaction number the money is transferred to the party's account.
