More  bad  news.     Local  television  this  evening  reports  that  the  workers  were told  today  at  3:30  that  their  plant  in  North  Haven, Ct  will close.  Not  immediate, within  a  year  or  year  and  one  half.  Will  they  now  make  them  in  a  sothern state?  Or  China?  Marlin  is  owned  by  Remington.

Between the gov't policies/taxes and the pressures by the unions, businesses are leaving CT everyday. Pratt&Whitney is closing the Cheshire plant at the end of the year - many of my friends out of work. Now Marlin is going. 

The CT gov't has been the largest employer in the state for years and few people see the crasiness of this situation. 

The Feds are even more crazy, giving a no-bid contract to Glock for pistols for Iraqi police, when Austria doesn't allow US made pistol to be sold there. So much for a "laser like focus on jobs". Here's the link

Sorry about the rant. I think I'll buy 2 Marlin 39's (preferably old) for my grandsons before all Marlins made in Turkey.

Seems like not everybody is telling the whole truth - I just checked at random an austrian gun dealer and, guess what?  He's selling Ruger pistols, revolvers and rifles...

Doesn't look like Ruger cannot sell to Austria - better not take everything at face value.  Before you spout some stuff, better check whether there is any truth to it.  In this case, NOT.

Also, Glock has a factory in GA - so most probably those Glocks would be made in the US - so I see absolutely no reason for your rant.

Having a distributor set up in a country & products listed on line is one thing. For the citizens of the country to be able to jump the regulatory hurdles to actually buy them is another.

My rant was more directed at the anti-business attitudes of our state & federal governments. Profit is a dirty work for them, and the solution for every problem is higher taxes. Better yet, tax the evil businesses - yah that's the ticket.

All very interesting geo/political theories, all to a degree more true than not, all avoiding one of the more obvious less ominous parts of the equation. Since we know who bought Marlin, did anybody stop and ponder the fact that they now have 2 plants within 250 miles from one another, one with a fair amount of excess capacity. Given that fact, do you really think they're going to pick up and build something down south, requiring a new plant from the ground up?

A recent article in the NRA's" Shooting Illustrated", stated that Bushmaster, Remington , Marlin and Barnes are now part of a holding company called Freedom Group.  I imagine they will all located near each other in the South.
