There's a nice looking Shuttleworth Stevens Model 52 in 22 LR at the upcoming Rock Island auction. Usual disclaimers...

    Hello John in Pennsylvania ;

Thanks for bringing this excellent Stevens/CPA Model 52 rifle in 22 R.F. ( Lot # 586 ) to our attention.

Did you notice the approximate price range of between $ 1,400 and $ 2,250.  It will most certainly sell for more than the $ 1,400 , at which price it would be a steal; and it would be a great bargain to someone at the mid-range price of $ 1,825 .

Who knows John, you just may have a nice Stevens/CPA rifle in your future. .   .   .happy bidding.     Smiley

If bidding, beware hefty "buyer's premium" that adds 15% (I think) to purchase price.  Pretty good chunk of change on top of successful bid

check Rock Island's site for all the fine print about bidding, etc.

     Rooster ,

Thanks for staying on top of this and for getting back with the actual sales price.  That's probably a fair deal for buyer and seller.  That makes me feel good knowing what the market will support for these very fine rifles.

I would have to conclude that the schuetzen calibers with accessories will bring more.

It started at $1800 after the sealed bids were sorted out, I got the first bid at $2000 then somebody bid $2250 and the hammer fell.  I need a .22 so I would have liked to have had it. I'll probably just get a barreled action from CPA and build one myself. I like the Pope style buttplate better than the large schuetzen buttplate this gun has on it anyway.
I did end up with a Shiloh sharps, gotta buzz over there and pick it up this morning. Smiley

Any idea what the two Trapdoor Officer's models brought?  Or the Peabody with the shortened barrel?

I would think that CPA sold for close enough to new cost from Paul buying a new one would be a better deal. Then get it exactly like you want it. Discounting my labor to finish the stock that is.

prices realized will be posted by end of the week if they are as quick as last auction. Also I thought I remembered the CPA going for $2500 (+15%) way more then it was worth IMO. Wood was pretty plain (straight grained).

You can't go back and see the picture so hard to tell exactly how it's finished.

CPA's can vary widely in quality and finsh of the wood.  It's  600 bucks off if you finish your own, and many look home done.  For my plain target rifle I just sanded out and simply finished a buttstock in about a week of getting at it a few minutes at a time.  40 to 1500 grit in 16 steps. It looks OK but still home made compared to one that CPA finished for me some time ago, Fancy wood nice finishing and fitting and Checkered in the Pope Style. Added as I recall 1000 dollars to the rifles price.

Also note the rifle is fitted with Axtell sights, good set of sights is 750 dollars or more if it has the Hadley disk. And Axtell's are good sights, some are not worth having.  I looked at a high dollar Sharps few weeks ago that had sights that were about useless.

2500 may not be a bad price depending, Still would order out one my self set up exactly the way I want it before buying at Auction.  Unless it was a real steal.

I spent some time handling this gun. It was a top of the line gun with a professionally checkered wrist in like new condition. I believe the stock was straight grain english walnut and it had one broad black streak through the cheek piece side that didn't show on the off side. The Axtell sights were quality, but no windage adjustment.
I bid to $2000 and quit. I would rather have had the small pope buttplate for my scrawny arm, so it wasn't a perfect fit for me. I'm sure who ever got it will be pleased.

The prices realized are posted on the Rock Island Auction site for the last auction if anyone was watching anything particular.
