The 2 on the left side, and the rectangular area of marked metal around them suggest to me that an attachment block for a Redfield International/Olympic type sight may have been there at one time.

I am not familiar with the Redfield Olympic sight.  It appears that the rear hole on the left side is threaded and the front hole is a larger diameter and not threaded, is this correct?
