What is a fair price for one of these. I'd rate it at 75% original finish. It has a couple of deep rust pits on the buttplate and on the front of the trigger guard. Two extra holes with unertl spacing in front of the original holes (nicely done and well centered) and an excellent bore. It would make an excellent shooter. I don't know what a fair price might be, What do some of the folks here think?

The last one I saw on Guns International was totaly correct and I would say 98% give or take. It sold immediately for about $1600. The one I bougt a couple of years ago had some pitting the barrel exterior, an extra hole in the stock where an extension had been added to the pistol grip, and the correct Lyman 144 sight and a perfect bore. Paid $600 for that one and thought it was a good deal at the time. Paid $600 for a realy nice one in .25 RF about the same time but the guy did not know what it was. Hope that helps. I would think $600 to $900 possibley. What does the guy want for it?

Just to add a little info, there is a 417 Walnut Hill currently on Gunbroker with 1 bid of $1200. 13 hours to go. Gun is extremely nice BUT there are 3 extra holes in the barrel for some type of scope mount and there is a block of wood screwed to the front end of the forearm as some type of rest. Screwed from the inside of the forearm. Came realy close to bidding on it because it is a very nice gun. Extra holes made me decide to pass even though I do not think the price was too high. Decided to hold out for a gun without mods.

I bought a just about mint 417 1/2 at the Denver show four years ago for $1200 with a 15x Super Targetspot on it. Sold the scope on ebay and now have a super squirrel rifle .... but I have not, nor am I likely to, ever go squrrel hunting.

The 418 supposedly is harder to find in good shape since it was a boys rifle and most of them well used or abused. IMHO paying $900. for a shooter and one that is just 75% is a shooter with extra holes is a lot of money but then again it's your money and you can do anything you want with it at least for now in the present political situation. If you get it for lets say $500 and then invest $300 to fix and redo stock and blueing you'll have a very pretty rifle that's not original but a pleasuse to own and enjoy. Richard

I recently bought a 418 , .22 short, Winchester #8 period correct scope, Lyman #2 tang sight, 98% gun, for $,1600 delivered. Guy was asking a bit more but took less. Did you ever buy the one you were looking at? It's been a while and I have lost track of where you were on this one. I am thinking around $500 or $600 would have been right on it.
