O no,
I don't mean to be Negative and Crabby as Jeff would put it but now I'm back in hot water and looking like a fool again.

Does this really mean that ALL postal matches are discontinued ?. And if so why. If like mes said there were less than 20 members shooting it cant be that anyone was over worked. And I don't think it could be a cost thing as the shooting members pay for there own targets and shipping, and the awards cant amount to much.

When was the meeting about this held. The Jan, Feb Journal has both indoor and outdoor postal events listed as a go.  Shouldn't the shooting members be asked about the discontinuing of a ASSRA shooting program ?, after all there the ones it affects, can a ASSRA shooting program just be discontinued without shooting member input.

The Black Powder Target Rifle BPCR shooters have a problem with the NRA and now the Schuetzen shooters are losing some of there shooting events, what's happing to the Shooting Sports ?.

I don't like the idea or recommendation by mes of going to the WSU to shoot as I read some of there stuff and they are bad mouthing the ASSRA as being unfriendly and having useless targets.

If It's because mes is so tied up with other things that he just does not have the time to take care of 20 or so shooters I understand,  but someone with experience should be able to take care of things, if I had any experience with such things I would do it if for no other reason just so it did not die.

Heck it seems that everybody at one time or another has bad mouthed the ASSRA.  And you should not blame a particular organization for whatever a few posters do or say.

If the indoor range I used had not been torn down to make room for a park in Fond du Lac, WI I would still be shooting the WSU Winter Postal League.

Yes it does take some time to set up and do all the necessary things.  It also does not help getting yelled at for not sending targets out in a timely fashion just because I took a three and a half week trip out west.

This all started a few years ago with people on the ASSRA site asking for some postal matches.  I went to the BOD (I am not a member of the BOD no matter what it says when I post) and they said if you want to do it go ahead.

In 2007 I think it was 2007, I set up a bad set of rules for the matches and no one entered.  I then revised the rules and the last two years were the result.  They may still be bad rules.  I think the time limits are too long.  The centerrfire matches are a joke when it comes to returned targets. Perhaps it should be rim fire only.  Maybe it is too many shots per match although I shoot a couple of hundred rounds a week.

So good or bad blame me.  Or give me some ideas on how to improve the matches

mes, it was not just what a poster said, it was an official of WSU, and that to me means he is a representative of WSU and as an official representing WSU as an organization he was stating there ideas and policy's. If this is not the case then WSU should get rid of him as he's not a good rep for WSU.

I'm sure it takes some time to organize everything, but I would think with an association as large as  ASSRA there should be at least a few with experience that could volunteer to help out. If I knew what was going on,  or if I knew what I was doing I would volunteer to help

I see nothing wrong with the rules, I have been told the rule book I have is current even though it's from the 1990's it was reprinted in 2002,  the rules are mostly clear as to what the Rifles have to be, what targets are to be shot at, the number of shots, the distance, etc. there has to be some other problem. I don't think the time limits are too long, the nice thing about them is that a member has most of the summer to shoot and can pick the day he wants to shoot, what can be better than that.

Sorry, I got cut off.
"So good or bad blame me.  Or give me some ideas on how to improve the matches"

Mes, I'm not blaming you or any one individual,  it is,  or it should be a ASSRA problem that has to be worked on by the BoD as the postal  matches are listed as shooting programs in the 2002 rule book. As for me giving you ideas on how to improve the matches, that would be like me helping you do brain surgery, I know nothing about it.

If less than 20 members showed up at Beeson Range and there was no help to set up the targets or no help with whatever has to be set up would it be closed down ?

Jeff,
I have no reason  to make anything up, no reason at all.
This is what was said :

"Targets to be use are the ASSRA or WSU 6 bull, 50-ft target. The ASSRA is ""unfriendly"" and will not sell to nonmembers. The WSU will sell to anyone. Anyway, buy them from the WSU"

Another one :
"Maybe the problem is the ASSRA target. I'm almost done with these, and I'll not miss them when they are gone"

And there's more but I'm not going to waste my time looking for all the derogatory remarks made about ASSRA, I have better things to do.  I'm about done with this, it's getting to the point that it seems not many care about the shooting sports any longer.

The reason for the target sales to members is the ASSRA does not have to pay sales tax on sales to members. If we would sell to non-members then we need to have a tax number.
I have to deal with sales tax my self it is just a pain!

Let me explain why the Postal Matches are still in the Journal. It is not a newspaper it is a magazine. We have a lead time. Right now it is barely March and I am working on May / June. March April is just starting to be mailed out. If I get told something today there is no way on Gods green earth that I can get the changes in before May. This is the same thing that I go through with some match directors. Just because you gave me a score last week dosn't mean that it is in the Journal that you get in your mail today.

Hi John,
I understand lead time and dead lines. That's what so great about the internet, it's fast. But when a shooting association makes changes in shooting programs without input from the shooters I just think it's wrong.

John,
For the short time we have "talked" you seem like a down to earth reasonable guy.

Don't you think the shooting members of ASSRA should have something to say about,  or at least give them the opportunity to voice there opinion or ideas about any shooting programs being changed. I seem to think that it used to be the  "American Way"  but maybe I'm living in the past.

Then when a BoD member ( an official of ASSRA ) accuses a member of makeing things up, or as some would say lying, and do it so the world can see it, well, I just don't think it's proper or a good way to impress members or gain new ones, or even keep the ones you have.

I'm amazed that a National Shooting Association would act in such a way as to not allow or not to ask for member input on something as important as the shooting programs that affects them. I didn't quite understand what mes meant when he said,  "Heck it seems that everybody at one time or another has bad mouthed the ASSRA"  I think now I'm starting to understand why.
This may not be the place for me.

Nothing negative, just my perspective

Won a postal one year, over one or two other guys. Nice certificate but looking at it I know there was little competition.   I was one of the members that had lobbied for rules that allowed shooters outside of organized matches to shoot, and ASSRA stepped up and made a set of rules we could use. If shooters shoot I don't think matches are a problem. If few shoot no reason to hold matches.  Hard to ask members to go to the trouble if there is a low turn out.

This year I am shooting CBA postal because of more competition with Single Shots, who knows why, but a lot of people shoot there matches.   Everybody has different goals, competition is the only reason I shoot or own Single Shots. CBA runs a very good postal program .I recommend it.

How about we clarify the rest of ASSRA's postal program, are there going to be outdoor postals in 2010 ? If so will send in the entry.

Boats,
Again, not trying to be Negative and Crabby but,
22-5-40 Said in one of his post :

"I called match director as I thought it was a typo.  He said unfortunatly it was not.  That the postal matches were discontinued.  These were the outdoor postals to be shot at your home range.  I know nothing about indoor postals"

Then mes said in a different post that the indoor 50 foot match was no more,  or something like that. Some guys have a in-direct way of saying things but the way I read it now is that "all" postal matches are discontinued.

   OK, OK,
I now see what I'm up against.
I'll try to be quite for the next 10 months of my membership. I and a few other friends joined to shoot, not everyone is close enough to EG or any other matches and thought the postal matches was a way for us to shoot with other members, did not know the matches were discontinued.

Believe me, if I knew  how it was run I would be happy to volunteer my time. Will hang around till next year, and try to gain some experience. If the postal matches aren't completely done away with I will volunteer to do them.

This organization is akin to the way most governments are set up. We have directors who the membership can contact and can convey their wants. The directors bring it up at our meetings if a big enough number of people conact them on that same subject.

Can we please everyone. Heck no, but we try to address issues important to a large group who makes their feelings known. As an example, we had some rule issues brought up by many members and we are in the process of updating them now to address those issues. It's taken longer than we like but we are trying to address numerous member issues all with our own time that could be used doing something else.

We all would like this or that, if someone else would do it. Remember we are a group of volunters. We were all new to what we are doing at one time. We made some mistakes, made corrections and moved forward. Don't let that stop you from taking on something new. We have lots of people who can advise what worked for them and what did not to gve you the benifit of experience.

In the end, it is up to you the membership what this organization does, or does not do. We can't read minds though. But, taking the position that someone else needs to do this or that gets us nowhere.
