ASSRA Postal Matches

hello, I have just been informed that the .22 rf. postal match has been discontinued. Any members thoughts on this?  How can we start this match again? I am in MI. and schuetzen is just about dead in my area.  I plan on attending the matches at Etna Green but would be nice to be able to shoot on home range also.  How about starting an online .22 rf. benchrest match?  This could be at 50yds. and/or 100yds. any thoughts on this would be welcome. thanks. .22-5-40.

   I would have to say before anyone goes off and starts their own Postal Matches we need to confirm that what you say is in fact correct and the Association's "official position."

   You say you "have been informed" that the postal matches have been discontinued.  Would you care to inform the ASSRA readership who or how you were so informed and whether the postal matches were allegedly suspended temporarily or for ever?

    I, for one, would want to eliminate the possibility that mis-information has crept into the picture.  Let's take this from the beginning and proceed in an orderly fashion.

Who told you that ?.  I hope not, I just convinced three of my friends to join because of the 22 postal matches. Why weren't the members asked if it should be discontinued ?. 

Can a ASSRA shooting program just be discontinued without member input. 

If this is so I'm going to look like a fool for getting guys to join so they could shoot the matches, and now there's no matches.

                    There is a component of this Forum that is called CREDIBILITY !   

                   I've come to pretty much know who is credible and who is shooting from the hip, so to speak.  I did notice that this is your 2 nd post ever in this group.  I would have to guess that you haven't officially joined our organization as a dues paying memberas, even if you intend to.

                I would also like to suggest sir that one does not build credibility by putting out alarmist information on their 2rd post and in doing so suggest that every one follow you into a new endeavor such as you've suggested for a renegade postal match group.

               Welcome to the Forum, and I hope we get to know you over time.

I thought it was the 22 outdoor postal matches that were discontinued. 

Martin,   
Is there a minimum number of shooters required for the indoor matches ?. 

Or is there a minimum number of shooters required for any of the matches ?.

Welcome to the forum. Hope you haven't been put off by the negative vibrations from our first two greeters. Many of our posters are COPs, (Crabby Old People), that probably don't get enough fiber in their diet.

Jeff,
I'm taking your Negative and Crabby comment as an attempt at a joke  Grin, at least I hope it was because I don't think the post by C.M.M  was Crabby or Negative and I don't think my concern for discontinuing a postal match was Crabby or Negative.

I see that you are a BoD member so I'm sure you can answer my serious question about the minimum number of shooters required for any of the matches, postal or any others. 

Being I'm new to ASSRA and a new shooter I don't know the in's and out's of things like this.  How bout it, other shooters may also want to know the answer to a question like this, by the way, I consider my question a legitimate one.

When Martin said severe lack of interest he means 3 people requested targets, No One turned one in. It seems the public has spoken on the postal matches.

There were 17 people requesting targets in 2008.
There were 13 people requesting targets in 2009.

Welcome! We have a monthly get together in Adrian (SE Michigan) of some local ASSRA members and some new single shot shooters too. We get together on the first Sunday of the month from 10AM till 1PMish. Sometimes longer but not much shorter time wise. In the bad weather we shoot gallery indoors at 50ft with .22LR and in better weather we go outdoors for 100 or 200yds. We welcome any shooter and the club fee indoors is $3, outdoors is free. Bring targets or we have some too.

hello again, The reason I called the postal match director is that in the latest journal, there were postings for 20l0 postal matches, at the end of the posting, it was stated to be sure to send in your match scores by ..I do not have the copy just now so am going by memory but I think it was dec. but I am sure that it said 2009.  That was why I called match director as I thought it was a typo.  He said unfortunatly it was not.  That the postal matches were discontinued.  These were the outdoor postals to be shot at your home range.  I know nothing about indoor postals as I have no way of shooting these.  I am not one to go about starting rumors as my time is far too valuable for that. if I wanted rumors I get my belly full of them at work.  I have been a member of the ASSRA for over twenty years, learned how to run round ball on an old cast iron range over 42 years ago, member of the Cast Bullet Asso., Sharps Collectors, NRA.  thank you.
