Spent part of the afternoon weighing 1000 rounds of Wolf Match Target.  lot # 176 44/2 333 4
51.0 - 51.3  130 bullets
51.4             103
51.5             157
51.6             167
51.7             127
51.8              90
51.9             87
52.0             66
52.1 - 52.6  73

As I went thru each box of 50 I noticed that individual weights where grouped together  as in 5 51.6  then a couple real low weights the a real high weight.  this would diffently account for  flyers either high or low if a person was to shoot with out weighing.  when one looks at where the majority of rounds are wiith the bulk of them being in that 51.4-51.8 range  64.4% of the brick I think these should work for bench shooting.
information for what it is worth.

SOMEDAY I'll put together 10 round sets - one all similar heavy, one all similar light and one every other one extremely heavy and light.

And then shoot them recording the results.

I've always wanted to close the loop.

While ur on the right track u mite want to make a tool for measuring rim thickness. It will open your eyes about your supposedly match amo. Not much different than the Walmart stuff. The end results will be the same with the cheap stuff.

This has been tested pretty extensively. For what it's worth, the better the grade of match ammo the less relevant testing for weight, rim, or crimp. Not many folks shoot Wolf in actual bench matches and very few measure anything with the current Lapua or Eley, as the top two with some SK Jagd thrown in.

At Rimfire Central this issue has been widely discussed.  The spread and standard deviation with quality ammo, e.g., Wolf, Eley, SK, etc., regarding rim thickness (impacting leade or land engagement (?)) and weight of the cartridges (powder, bullet weight) is small resulting in tighter groups, fewer flyers.  Better quality is more consistent ammo.  Still need to test what works well in each individual rifle.  Different lots of the same ammunition make for different impacts, i.e., buy a bunch if it works.  If segregating by measuring and weighing gives someone more confidence, so much the better.

Regarding buying mid-grade ammo for practice, e.g., Federal 510, some have tried 22LR sizing dies, e.g., PACO ($45-128), Waltz($125).  I have one of them, testing proved inconclusive (mostly me).  But I'm told these dies will not make quality ammo better but will improve the consistency of mid/low grade ammo - for practicing.  These dies also reform the tip, e.g., flat, HP.

For a CZ453, I measure rim thickness and weigh Wolf MT and Fed 510, and I see a definite improvement.  It's anal, but I enjoy doing it while watching TV and it improves my confidence that flyers are my fault, which I'm not surprised. Smiley

Heres a cheap rim thickness gauge. I came up with this years ago, works good! Stoney Point / Hornady Bullet Comparator with  243 Dia. insert. A 22 Rimfire case drops in perfectly. A pic shows it on caliper and the parts setting to the side. This is if you already have this, works just as good as there Rim Thickness Gauge.

Bill, if you want to play with checking rim thicknesses, I'll lend you my dial indicator tool.  Let me know.

Hi Bill, I used to do rim thickness and weight and I found rim thickness in conclusive. I have a Neal Jones and a dial indicator style and you can rotate ammo and getting varying readings. I found weight to be worth while because it eliminated those outliers that were beyond the normal bell. I segregate as I weigh but I don't know if I get better groups from these separate  groupings (but I feel better) but I'm sure the bigger outliers will cause problems.
