Anyone ever heard of a barrel maker, "P. Fiefer"?
Just wondering.

Hello Merwin,
The name rings a bell, I seem to recollect that he is mentioned in Gunsmithing by Howe, but I cannot lay my hands on my copy, I put it somewhere safe and can't remember where. (old age)
I believe he operated just after WW2 in the USA.

I think you might be talking about Joe Pfeifer of Southern California. Check Monty Kennedy's book "checkering & carving gunstocks". Good Luck ...MIKE...

Joe Pfeifer was located in Roscoe, CA (later renamed Sun Valley). His barrels were well thought of in the late '40's and '50's by a lot of West Coast shooters -including the "modern" benchrest gang. In fact I believe one of the early group records was set by a Pfeifer barreled rifle. (Have to look that up when I get home.)
I have a Ballard with a heavy Pfeifer barrel in 38-55 made about 1949. The previous owner used it in ASSRA matches in the 1980's, and did very well with it.

After reading these posts I took another look at the barrel. It does, indeed say Pfeifer and not P. Feifer. Some of the muck from the years looked like a period but is not.
The other end has the markings:
357
38 S&W
1 (over) 15 (thinking this means 1 in 15 twist, looks about right)
01
Anyone know where I can get any more info on the guy?
And thank you for the responses!
