Great site!, Great resource!

I just picked up this rifle from a farmer trading for $$$$ for hay.

I believe it's a model 44, stamped 45-0 on front of receiver. Has the #4 Stevens buttplate, windage adjustable front site. Uses the 1889 style mainspring and the early extractor. Serial # 51XX  in .22 LR.

The tang site that was on the rifle is mismatched. it is a Lyman #1 (2nd version) with the '79 and '84 pat. dates and stamped 'R' (remington #3 rifle). Someone tried to use the rear stock screw to hold it all in place, it almost worked.

I have a Montana Arms #130 tang site that I'm asking them to get me a Stevens base for it.

The dark spot is a cross dowel pin repair.

anyway. Hope you have good comments...

Wow, very nice!  You have a Stevens #45 on the 44 action.  This was the standard rifle upgraded with the small Swiss buttplate and more sophisticated sights.

Welcome perazzi, nice rifle, the stock fix caught my eye, I did this same fix on a rifle I used to own--did anyone tell you that these singleshot rifles are very habit forming, now you'll have to find a 44 1/2 Stevens to make life complete, and so on.   ledball

Nice rifle. A little nicer with the butplate than the standard 44. Only problem I have with them is that I am runing out of storage room in my garage. Darn things keep mutliplying. Actualy I just keep buying more. Looking for a 417 Walnut Hill now.
