New Farquharson action

Farily new here. I am a licensed gunmaker in Diana, TX. 

I am a single shot nut. just love em. Farquharson's especially. 
This is my prototype action based on Holland/Woodward's patent for external styling, Farquharson's cocking system, but with rebounding hammer, in-line firing pin and coil mainspring.

     Welcome, Bailey, to the A.S.S.R.A. web forum !

     And how are things down in beautiful Texas these days ?  Is the town of Diana any where near the hill country of TX or are you more easterly towards Louisiana ?

     You are a very talented guy, rather gunsmith, if you don't mind me saying so.  The action that you've graced the pages of our humble web site with is something to behold.  It is obviously very heavy duty (intentionally) judging from the thickness of the upper and lower tangs, and I am wondering what caliber cartridge would max it out, if any ?

     Are you intending this project for the commercial/custom market or is it a one of a kind for your own personal use and enjoyment ?

     I'm glad you found us on the forum and hope you will favor us with additional information and images as time goes on.

     Again, a very warm welcome to you and hope to see you around soon again.

Hey Terry!! 

Thanks for posting the link to the DR thread. I am undeway on your action BTW.

I will be offering these action for sale after I prove this one. 


I will chamber it in .260 Remington or 6.5-06. It is scaled to accept up to 30-06 size cases. I will be making a larger action for up to .375 H&H size cases as well.

I will get a picture of the internal parts in a couple of days.

Very impressive.  It looks very stout yet is extremely graceful looking.  I'll be interested to see when you start marketing these.

Back surgery went great and I am back in the shop. You fellows owe it to yourself to follow Bailey"s build on the link listed above. The double rifle receiver is made of Damascus that Bailey also forged. He is a very talented and gifted craftsman

Thanks Butch. Very kind of you. Glad you are back in the shop and on the mend. Nothing worse than back trouble.

Here are a couple of updated pics of the falling block. You may notice the rough texture under the top tang. I had to weld in material in order to machine the trough on top of the tang deeper so the longer cases would feed. I had a little too much angle up from the chamber. .308 cases would feed, 30-06 length cases wouldn't. I have changed that feature on my Cad design and already have another action in progress with the change.

Just under $1500. is where the price will be. I am working on the extractor now, and will probably run the first round through it tomorrow. Of course I will provide a report.

OK, Good News Good news. 

I made another action...prototype number 2, or Mk1 Mod1 for you military types. Fitted the Gibbs style extractor, made a slight change to the underlever shape, added a latch like all godd Farkys have and a couple of other little changes for the better. 

The best news is how well the extractor works. Drop the lever hard enough and it sends the case out as far and fast as any ejector I've ever used.

I shot several rounds through the first action, but wasn't happy with the extractor. Other than that, it performed beautifully.

NIce very very nice, and the double build thread was one of the most enjoyable build-alongs I've seen.
   Now just so I have some thing to fantasize about,  how much for a Farq. in Damascus?
