I purchased an old Winchester mould.  There was some rust, so I wiped it down with alcohol, used a #2 pencil to break off the old oxidation, then gave it a light coat of Break Free Collector oil.  But the rust around the hinge keeps poping up after a few weeks.  Any suggestions?

Hinges and moving parts are hard to rust prevent in humid environments, however surface rust is another matter.

An old timer told me that oil and water do not mix, ergo, it is rather foolish to use oil on rust free surfaces for stopping rust because it was just a matter of time before moisture got under the oil and began the rusting process.  His advise, and it works magnificently, is to use 100% carnauba wax (Mother's product) just like you would on your 1960 cherry red Pontiac Bonneville ragtop. Just clean the surface, apply the wax in circular motion, let haze, then buff with old t-shirt.  Best advise I've ever received on fighting rust!  Never have to worry about rust from fingerprints, damp basements, caught in the rain during a match, etc... again.

While I agree that the paste wax is a good idea, I use it on guns, I still think that it is necessary to periodicly check any metal object that is prone to rust just to make sure there are no additional problems.

It's an old Winchest 1890 32-165 mould.  Although the cavity is in pristine shape, I hadn't planned on using it.  On my next moulding session, I'll take you advice and brush it, boil it, mould a few bullets then pour wax on it.  Thanks for the advice.
