You say the rifle clubs shoot only < 1914 vintage,  did you ever run across a Remington Rolling Block or two on the line ?

What was the most prevelant hunting caliber or was it "all over the field "?

Kind of makes one want to get it together and go.

That Club  only shot rifles prior to 1914.  Don't recall any RB's.  Lots of English stuff and for some reason lots of Trapdoors.

This shoot is part of their justification to have a gun.  They are shooter of historic rifles.  They have a club shoot every weekend and several Provincial shoots all over SA during the year.

Most popular hunting cartridges were probably  .308  and .303.  They don't get a lot of the fancy new cartridges that we get.  It's pretty expensive to ship guns an ammo down there. Only a few places in the world further away than SA, and those place don't have a gun culture.
