Just returned from a long quick 4 day road trip to Oregon and back.  Buried a favorite cousin and visited some old friends.

Was having dinner with a former colleague  and he asked me if I was interested in his old 22-250.  I said yes but asked what kind of condition was it in.  He told me that I was the last person to shoot it.  Choke! That had to be earlier than 1983.  

The rifle is an early issue, 1969 if I remember right, Remington 700 BDL Varminter Special.  It also has a Redfield 36 x Benchrest scope.

Plenty of those old Remington's show up on gunbroker but I can't find one of those scopes listed.  20x yes, but not 36x.

Anybody have an idea of a value range for this scope?   

I have a first year of production Ruger No 1 22-250 that has the civilian version of the sniper scopes used in Viet Nam with the tombstone range finder.  The scope still has the stickers on it.  As I recall they were going on Ebay for $500-$600.  However that particular model is highly sought after by guys who are trying to make reproductions of the rifle used in Viet Nam.

DoubleD, IIRC there is a benchrest-dedicated board out there... I want to say one is called BenchrestCentral or some such.  The one I used to stop by several years ago (and again, I'm not sure this is the right name... a Google search might help) had some participants who were long time shooters in the discipline with historical info to share.  Maybe they would be more help than the random shots in the dark you seem to be getting  here.  No offense guys, but he asked a specific question that none of us seem to be answering! The scope is obviously fairly rare, was not made recently, and will have some specific info applicable to it.  That's what DD needs.  I can contribute an observation that Redfields in general were not held in as high regard as some of the other contemporary brands as they were perceived as not as bright... this may have affected the popularity and sales numbers, but from a collector's standpoint may be secondary.  Sorry to not be more help myself!

Are you sure it's a Redfield?
I believe Redfield's 3200 and their 6400 only went to 24X from the factory. Maybe it was boosted. The USMC sniper scope (3x9)came out in mid-60's, before those.
Knowing a lot of ex-Redfield employees it could have been some experimental project, but I doubt it.

Very sure it's a Redfield not sure it's 36x...last time I looked at the gun was 1983. At dinner the other day he said it was a 36x and I seemed to remember it as such.   

Were the 3200 and 6400 around back then?

I suppose I need to call him and tell him to drag the gun out and look.

But the real question, Douglas, is, did you hit what you shot at some decades ago?  Even with a paltry 20x ?
