The Delaware Valley Single Shot Association Matches for 2009/2010 to be held at the Conestoga Rod & Gun Club in Southampton, Pa.

December 2009- Saturday 12th
January 2010- Friday 8th & Saturday 9th
February 2010- Friday 19th & Saturday 20th
March 2010- Saturday 13th
Start time 8:00am

    Are these matches for .22 R.F., or do they include center fire as well ?   What are the distances for these two calibers ?

    Hi again Bill:

                    I checked the Conestoga Gun Club web site which answered the questions I had earlier in the day.

                    I do, however, need one point of clarification if you have time.  The C.G.C. site indicates the schuetzen matches are shot with .22 Cal R.F.at fifty feet and the ammunition must be "squib loads".

Since the ammunition is factory loaded, does that mean that it has to be either .22 short or .22 C.B. and .22 long rifle would be disallowed ?

I hope to make it up for the December match.

Creedmoormatch,

All of our matches are indoors at 50' on the standard ASSRA 50' targets. We have matches for both .22rf and centerfire single shot rifles. Both iron and anysights matches are run. We also have a "military only" match for Trapdoors, Rolling Blocks, Sharps, etc. Also, we have a pure Schuetzen match for 8.15 rifles. The "squib loads" refers only to the centerfire rifles. Ammunition loaded up to pistol velocities is what we are expecting for the centerfire rifles. Like 4grs of Bullseye in a 45/70 or 2.7 to 3 grs of Unique in a 32/40, etc..
We also do not limit our shooting to targets, we shoot alot of "Bull" all day long, and we don't charge extra for those events. Some time the "Bull" gets deep, but we are all experts at shovelling, so no one gets hurt. We also provide food and great company, so hope you can make it for one of the dates.

I live a long way from Conestoga but always try to shoot at least one match per season. Nice guys that put on a full slate of gallery shooting. Many interesting single shot rifles to see.  Last one I attended several original Pope's on the line.

It's the only club I know of running squib matches as well as rimfire.

   Thanks Bill and Boats for getting me on the correct page with you all.

  Do you think my knee high boots will do at the shoot or should I go up in the attic and drag out the hip waders ?

I'ld like to bring a bushel of Bull, but the next best thing that I have is what I collect every morning from the four horse stalls.  It's probably just as good as the steer variety.   Grin

I usually shoot my 32/40 barrel, have a nice 125 gr Lyman mold that works good with a light charge of W231.  Have wanted to shoot the 38/55 but could not find a proper light bullet mold.

Last gong match at 200 yards one of the competitors was using a  38 cal 255 gr pre cast "cowboy action" bullet with a light charge of pistol powder.  Turns out the local gun shop sells them in 500 boxes.  Am going to give it a try.   With only about 100 rds per year gallery loads don't need to go to too much trouble.  Raphine used to sell a nice light 38 mold but seems he is out of business.

I ought to add Paul Shuttleworth told me you need all the accucary you can get gallery though.  Close but the target is demanding.

     I think I used to have a little 125-135 gr bullet for the .38-55.  I'll look for it if you like.

Have a look before I buy 500 store bought bullets.  They may work OK but would have to keep the fact I used over the counter  bullets quiet.  Might have to assign them some obscure Lyman number when posting that one hole group.

  Hey Boats:
                 Just ask the bullet caster to ship them to you in the proverbial " Brown Paper Wrapper " and even the UPS delivery person won't know.

        By the way, are you heading to the " Gong Shoot " the first Saturday in December ?  Weather permitting, I think I'm in for that instead of Conestoga.  Because Conestoga is indoors, January and February are my choices with them.
