The  RELOADING TOOL COLLECTORS ASSN. site has been down for a while and is now back up. BUT you now have to be a paid member of the association to access the web site.
Does this seen counter productive to anyone else?
Would anyone here pay 35.00 to look at a site and see if it interests you? Shocked

I used to post on the site and found it useful for reference. Last week I found out about the change after logging in failed. I'm not sure if I'll send $35 or not. If my main interest were strictly collecting old loading tools I don't know if I'd send the money then either. Is the site worth the money? Not for me now. If the sight listed every loading tool ever made and had a picture for every tool I might consider sending them money. I think anyone interested in old tools can purchase books on the subject and use the existing free sites like this one to converse with others about old tools.

It's a method to generate new members.  SASS is putting up a 'Member's Only' this Oct 19th also

I have referred to the site perhaps five or six times in the last two years or so.  Paying $35.00 for the honor would sure put a stop to it.

I also think $35 seems it bit much for access to a web site.  Perhaps it has some useful information, but, if that is an annual fee, it better be offering a lot more than just a repository for reloading info SS rifles.

If $35 was lifetime (one time only fee) that still seems a bit much.

Tht is too bad, I hope it isn't a trend.

For several years I participated in a hunting web site that had "contributing members" that were allowed to post pictures, etc.  The suggested fee was $25.00 per year.  It was a nice system, newcomers were welcome to post and read without paying anything for as long as they wanted.  Most regular posters became contributing members.  I used to make a $100.00 donation each year because I thought I was getting so much from it.  Unfortunately as time went on it degenerated and I no longer participate.  I still think it is a good model for such sites.

I just got a reply from ARTCA.  The reason for the fee is $35 your first year and $20 renewal.  The excuse was the cost of printing the quarterly newsletter.  I asked him if they thought about doing the newsletter electronically.  Why print something that will go in the recycle box after a year or so.  To me electronic is much more useful since you can search it.  IMHO anyway.

I wonder how many guys would drop out of this web site if ASSRA made you pay for a membership.

How much do you think it cost ASSRA to run this site.  Do you think they do it at no cost. I get a lot of info from this site and sometimes I feel guilty because I'm not a ASSRA member, but I do try an help when ever I can,  like sending the 32 Miller Short and the 32-20 cases to 40 Rod for his article.

As for me not being an ASSRA member that's a personal thing with me and till some of the members are invited back here I will not support ASSRA with my dues money,  but will help other members when ever I can and would send money to support this site as long as the baning gods do not get out of hand again and start banning guys without warring like they did before.

Guys, there's really no free lunch, ASSRA or someone has to pay for this site, and we all know that at times members and officials make mistakes, hopefully sooner or later mistakes will be corrected and some of the old time members will be welcome back, at that time I and I'm sure others would be more than happy to donate what ever it takes to make sure a site like this one will go on forever.
