Just to throw out an idea

Noticed the thread by falling block concerning the ASSRA book shelf and the thought of putting donated books out for sale other than at the yearly meeting.  Good idea I think but also think we could go even further.  Used to be back in the early nintys about when I joined that the yearly auction items were listed in the journal and one could contact someone with your high bid who would bid for you at the auction.  Got a couple of things myself at the time.  Somehow along the way, this stopped.  Now I do understand that because of the way the journal is now printed ( just for the record-- I like it !!) it would be very impractical to do this.
Would this work to boost the returns from the auction ?
I think most of the members either have or have access to a computor and the internet.  Put these auction items on this web site.  It shouldn't be too hard to do.  Allow members only or perhaps non members as well to use a bidding system like what is called a silent bid or perhaps some kind of system such as used by Gunbroker, Auction Arms and others with bid increments.  Either way at the web site or at the annual meeting, high bidder takes it.  I honestly think it would up the anti on some of the items put up for the auction as it would allow a much larger audience to play the game.  It is after all a fund raiser.  I also wouldn't be supprised if you wouldn't see an increase in donated items.  After all, the name of the game is revenue .
All of the above is just a thought and perhaps has been discussed many times befor, What does anyone else think? Smiley

Books for sale are listed in the Journal and on the ASSRA  home page. I get send out the current list to anyone that asks. The web page is out of date and the list in the Journal is also dated as books sell and new ones come in. In case any one is looking for Gun Digests I have quite a few on hand and will have a 30 plus year run of the Muzzle Blasts that are to be delivered to Etna Green for the spring match. I also have a bunch of American Rifleman that I need to data enter. The lists are on an excel spread sheet should any one want to look at what is available.
All of the books sold are cleared by Rudi as not needed for the Archives.
I started the book shelf with the boards approval as the books were being purchased by my self as well as others at the auctions for resale. The prices at the auctions were too low as most people had already owned much of what was being sold. The prices are still very reasonable so please take a look at what is available.
Send a PM or email secretary at assra dot com for the list. As it is in excel I need an email to send the list to.
Also, the board is in the process of reviving the auction. DWS has been kind enough to take on the job.
Cheers,
Laurie
