If I can ever steal my life back that sounds like a lot of fun!! I used to shoot the FFX matches several years ago when it was in my backyard.

While that isn't in my back yard, sounds like only a couple hor drive. 

I will be sending you a PM. Any chance you can bring some flyers to Brushy Mt?

                                     Match starts: 2:00 pm  (Club gate will be open from 12:30pm to 2:15pm)
                                     Matches fired rain or shine. Covered firing line

Course of fire:              40 shots offhand at full size 500m ram – Distance: 190 yds.

Entry Fee:                    $15.00 per competitor

Arms and Ammunition: 

Any rifle (except Scheutzen or Bolt Action) designed and chambered for blackpowder metallic cartridge or typical reproduction thereof. 

Metallic sights, vernier or ladder or reproduction thereof that is typical of the time period. 

No slings,  scopes or tube sights allowed. 

Fixed cartridges of .32 caliber or larger with a cast or swaged LEAD bullet propelled by any safe smokeless powder, blackpowder, pyrodex or duplex charge may be used. 

No jacketed or gas check bullets allowed 

Please bring your spotting scope if you have one

Scoring:                         Each competitor will be required to help score, spot and paint targets for other shooters.

Awards and Ties:        The award pot will consist of the total of entry fees less club expenses.

                                    The award money will be divided among 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places all ties will be broken by 

                                    Shoot-off. Bring extra ammo. Shoot-offs must be fired with same rifle used in the match.

Facilities:                     Covered firing line and toilet. BRING YOUR SNACKS AND WATER.

Creedmore, 38/55,

On the course of fire, rules are the same as Fairfax Rod and Gun who have shot this match for many years.  A relay has 3 or 4 shooters.  Each shoots one shot then waits for the other shooters to take there shot.  So you are up again as soon as the other guys take there one shot.  This repeats until all have fired 10.  Then you stand down rack your rifle, and the ram is repainted.  Black or white as  conditions dictate.

Next the shooter relay becomes the spotter relay with at least 2 scopes  spotting on the ram.  Third guy is marking a spotting board with push pins colored to indicate the individual shooter's hit.  End of the relay board has 30 or 40 pins and gives a very good picture of how each rifle is striking.

This routine repeats for the 2nd 3rd and 4th relays.  Ties are broken by shoot off, same method.  It's pretty easy to spot the hits only problem is if someone is not watching when the gun  goes off, this is backed up by the 2nd spotter.

It's totally different than shooting Paper targets like we do in Schuetzen.  No slighter target during the match. Plenty of chances to sight in on the rams before the match though.  No delaying the shot either other guys are waiting for you to shoot.   

Match ought to be easy, the rams are large, but in practice it's very difficult to shoot a high score.  Only a couple of 40's have ever been shot.  Last one 32 won the match and it takes mid 30's to insure a win.  The preassure is shooting on demand no sighter targets, only a few errors will put you out of the running.   

Guessing only the basic rules are like offhand Schuetzen used to be shot years ago, only difference is the ram shape instead of bullseye. Personally if I was going to tweak the match rules would be exactly the same but I would use a round gong with some sort of different color center. Score it as a center shot & used to break ties. It would be easy to see the bullet splash on centers. Round is easier in my opinion

       Thanks for your leg up on the rules for the Gong Match.

       Also, I'm going to give Gail a call at CPA and order their silhouette profile butt stock with the shot gun style plate.  I have other S.S. rifles that I can shoot for the October match, but would like to have my CPA "match compliant" by December.
