	i am new here and have a few questions for some of you. going to start shooting in some schuetzen matchs and am going to order a rifle from cpa. i am going to go with the cpa model 52.i want someting i can shoot standing, and benchrest with. what would be a good barrel length to go with and barrel dia. i am thinking for cal either 32/40 or 38/55.what do you think. thanks for the help

	It’s fun to see that I am not the only one who doesn’t get answers on e-mails to CPA. FWIW I am very satisfied with my CPA rifles I had one build for bench rest and one for real shooting (standing up) both in 30" barrels and Nr. 52, the bench rest is with a shotgun butt while the other is as Nr. 52. Call Gail or Paul at CPA they are nice people but don't ask for delivery time it won’t hold but the rifle are worth waiting for Michael

	I have a traditional Schuetzen rifle, a BPCR rifle, and a 22 with the 52 style stock. The 52 style works fine for offhand along with bench. I am very pleased with my CPA rifles. I am trying to wear them out, but so far, have been unsuccessful. Give them a call, very helpful.

	I have to chime in here too. I own three of their rifles and truly enjoy them. I spend more time shooting these than anything else. I have several Shilohs, and there is a lot of history and charm that go with the model '74 Sharps rifle, but the CPA's fit me better. In regards to your question- what would I suggest? If you intend to shoot black powder go with the .38-55 and a #4 barrel 30" long. If smokeless is strictly your thing the .32-40 is tough to beat. I would go with a #3, or #4 barrel again 30" long- maybe 28". As long as I am spending your money order the .38-55 in the configuration I stated, and get the .32-40 as an accessory barrel. My last thought- Get another accessory barrel 28" long, #3 weight in .22 rimfire with a rimfire breechblock. There--- I spent it all. Just think of how happy I made you. Psst- don't tell your wife. 	Am with Bruce on this one I shoot # 4's on my CPA's for Offhand. 38/55 when black powder 32/40 for smokeless and a .22 rimfire too. All # 4 I think over 28 inches with a Douglas brings a premium charge but don't know for sure. There is a point for a # 3 barrel offhand if fatigue is an issue in a long match. Stocks have had several, Now run two actions one is stocked Stevens 52 best for the heavier recoiling 38 and a Pope Style on the 32/40 with the .22 barrel. Because of the hole size the 22 is noticeably heavier. Way I shoot the rimfire thats ok with me. Bench is another mater. I gave it a try and little bit I shot came to the conclusion the competition is so hot you need a dedicated bench stock. I don't know of a sucessfull hybrid, they fall short one or the other bench or offhand. No reason to have a light bench gun either. My 32/40 bench barrel was a # 5 and the fellow I sold it too is getting very good results. Boats

	My thoughts are oriented a little different and pretty much based on what I've seen on the Etna Green range. Get whichever fits you best for offhand, then get an extra bench style butt and forend for bench work. I'd base my cartridge choice on a couple things. both 32-40 and 38-55 are great traditional schuetzen cartridges and both will work fine. As mentioned the larger one will be decidedly easier to work with if you want to use Black powder. With smokeless the 38 will have a bit more recoil if that is a factor for you and it will consume more lead and powder per shot. However if you shoot at a range where wind is a normal factor the 38-55 is a mite easier to work with in windy conditions. I'd go with the 22 rf barrel/breechblock for sure

	I was fortunate enough to win the CBA National Plain Base Bullet Class in 2006 at Springfield Oregon shooting a CPA Model 52 in 32-40 and it took me three years of year round shooting to develop what the rifle liked and the rifle preformed way beyond my expectations once I figured out what the rifle liked. There is no magic in my CPA Stevens nor would there be any magic in a new Ballard High Wall. The magic is in your dedicatiion to reach your goals by one means only and that is to practice practice practice and then practice some more.

	i want to thank every one for their input on the cpa rifles, now i have a better idea of the standing and benchrest shooting typ rifles. i will call cpa next week and talk to them and in the mean while think a little more about what every one said..thank you

	Advise that was given to me early on. If you're shooting bench and off-hand (with one rifle) - go for the off-hand stock. With maybe a Schoyen 1 prong buttplate. You may not outscore the dedicated benchrest crowd, but a good off-hand score will get you the aggregate. Again, talk with CPA. Their advise is the best. My advise is worth maybe half of what you've paid for it. Jerry

	Agree with Jerry If the Agg is what you are going for set the rifle up for offhand and try not to loose too many points to the bench rest specialist. You can gain enough with a proper offhand rifle to make up for the bench scores given equal scoring in the agg bench and offhand. Although a friend of mine will tell you reason he has never won at ISSA is his bench score using his offhand rifle. Competition is so close there you can't give anything away. Hope we have not given advice that's hard to follow. Most of the guys on here are match shooters specializing in one or the other disciplines. For a first Schuetzen you won't go wrong with a CPA Stocked Stevens 52 in 32/40. # 3 or 4 depending on the Weight you think you can handle in a long match. Then add the other barrels and stocks as you work into one or the other specialty and the matches you are likely to shoot. Boats

	One thing that hasn't been mentioned here is service. There are some really good products out there that have poor support. CPA's service is BEYOND excellent. I had my rifle updated after several years of use. The update was NO CHARGE. While it was in their hands I did spend a little money but what they did for me was flat out inspiring.
