    Hey Joe ...so it's Labor Day and you're out splitting wood !  I do some of my best thinking when I'm on the tractor mowing ... it has automatic trans, cruise control and A/C ... so you get the picture ?

Well here is what I've come up with.  If you don't mind me saying so, I think you are out of focus.  What you are missing is the fact that your bullets already whistle if you're shooting them above 1024 f.p.s. Muzzle Velocity.  I have the necessary data to prove that.

What you fail to realize is that you are just not hearing the whistling bullets.  As you know sound travels at different wave lengths, not all of which may be heard by the human ear.  For instance, the K-9 species have more acute hearing than does the Human species.

That is not to say that you could not adapt specific audio equipment receptors to detect the bullets whistle, because you could.  My suggestion is to redirect your attention away from specific modifications to you bullets and instead look at audio receivers that will convert the sound wave length of the bullet's whistle to the wave length which is audible to the human ear.

Dang Tom,

I bet FDC wondered what happened to that shot.  I'm sure it didn't land where they expected.  The best whistles I ever heard from artillery was when a rotating band broke off.  That really got your attention.
