How can I make my bullets whistle when going downrange?

Does anyone remember the whistling tops  and yoyo's when we were kids? There must be a way to make my bullets whistle.  Huh

Anybody have any ideas?  Smiley

Situate some good looking bullets alongside the range and your bullets might whistle at them as they go by! Grin

I had a .25-06 that would do it.  The bullets were HP with 4 or 5 little notches around the edge of the HP.

Go to YouTube and check out bowling ball mortars. Bowling balls really whistle when they go down range. Maybe you'll get some ideas from that.

jo,
if you take a carbide insert and put a small screw through the hole, and blow on it with an air hose it wil whistle so in that case if you attach an even smaller one to the front of the bullet it might have the same effect!!!!
or you could try using pure sil;ver solder when you cast, as it will whistle,(akatumble), you may never hit another target again but it will kinda whistle.

Also well documented on gbocannons.com .

Perhaps a hole or to to the side or one through from side to side.  You could have a real screamer!

Hey Joe, had another thought for you.

Why not trying to whistle (yea, you whistle) at them as they go down range and see if they'll come back to you.

My dogs do it all the time ... why not your bullets ?

You may want to put your flak jacket on just in case it works.

Let me know what you find out, O.K. ?        Undecided      They may be retriever bullets, don't you know !

  C.M.M.

P.S.  You would think I have nothing better to do ...  when I should be out on that tractor mowing !      Grin

Why not drill a hole in the front and a bigger hole in the side and place a BB in the bigger hole?  It should ( yeh right ) work just like a kids whistle.  Or did you actually want to be able to hit something with the bullet?

Yes I want to be able to make good scores with the whistling / screaming bullets. The perfect sound would be the sound a Stuka dive bomber makes during a dive. The idea is to intimidate the competition into submission. Everytime they hear a screamer go down range it will cause fear and panic in the heart of the most fearless shooter. Nerves will twitch, some lesser shooters will pack up and go home. Women and children will run for their lives. Dogs will hide under cars. Schutzenmeisters will try to stop the carnage with much frustration as there is no rule against the whistler.

The idea has been bouncing around up there for quite a few years. I have some ideas of my own but wanted to fish here just in case someone else had the same thoughts.

Actually the bullets themselves might not have to whistle. How about this? Rig a micro-switch to the trigger that will activate a small powerful speaker with a digital recording of a Stuka. The playback device could be easily concealed in some bulky piece of gear on your bench, cartridge box or powder measure. The ultimate sophistication could be had by carefully calculating the bullets time of flight and giving the recording that precise duration with a juicy smack at the end and a decreasing volume to give the impression that it's moving away.

I once bought a reloading press from a fellow that chose his powder for maximum muzzle blast and smell for the same reason!
