The Largest Single Shot Rifle Competitive Event in American history took place over a period of three days in a small farming community in Pennsylvania one hot July, approximately some 145 years ago.  The event was held in Gettysburg and all manner of single shot shooters were in attendance.  Their single shot rifles spanned the multitudes of what the human mind could conceive.  Their targets were the human forms silhouetted against the opposite horizon, each unknown to the shooters.  The marksman's skill with their rifles stained the American soil crimson during those three days, and for many days that followed. 

Although there are no longer any remaining living human witnesses to that event, there is at least one living white oak "Witness Tree" which was present at the time and at the site of Pickett's charge.  The Witness Tree is experiencing the rigors of old age ... and the National Park Service has decided that it needs to come down, before it actually falls down.  The great white oak is to be given to the Friends of Gettysburg, more correctly known as the Gettysburg Foundation, to be sawn into planks and then smaller slabs.  The individual memorial slabs will be sold by the Foundation as a collector's memorial  (artifact).  Please see; (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
