I am new to the forum......

I usually make this post first, but got ahead of myself, and posted a question before introducing myself.

I have had an interest in BP cartridges for a few decades, and used to be active in the loading/shooting of such.  As is with a number of interests, some seem to fall by the wayside, this being one of them.  My most active interest has been the rebuilding/restoration of old Harley-Davidson engines/transmission.  I'm still active in that, but decided that my interest in vintage shooting is something that should have never fallen short, so I'm becoming more active in it.  I don't belong to any organizations, like SASS, as I shoot more for personal pleasure than competition.  And, single-shot shooting is more my preference, as it requires more personal attention, on my part.

I do shoot modern, smokeless cartridges, though none of the very modern stuff.  Just the wildcat/custom ones that I was exposed to in my younger years.  Should have paid more attention to my 'elders', in those days, and I would have experienced way more.  Youth can have many distractions.

Anyway, I'm here to learn what I missed, and catch up on what I've grown rusty on.  And, maybe contribute when I can.  Thanks for a great forum.

Jack

Welcome to the ASSRA forums Jack.  I note from your Website that you are in NC.  We have some members and some affiliated club matches down your way.  I hope you get a chance to visit and meet some of them at one of those events.  you'll find that in addition to a common interest in single shots we seem to attract guys who are interested in other old machines, like cycles, cars and other oddball stuff.

If you are interested in Single shot Buffalo rifles such as the Sharps, Remington, and others in calibers from 40 -70 thru 45-110 and on to 50-70, get a copy of Mike Venturino's "Shooting Buffalo Rifles of the Old West."

It is a gold mine of loads, bullets, reloading tips, and more.

Welcome. What specific rifles and cartridges are you interested in. My own primary interest is Stevens but I have a Trapdoor Springfield and a Pedersoli Sharps replica and a neat Savage 219 in .22 Hornet.

Jack, Were are you located in NC ?It's a big state.  Our Virginia matches are not so far from Greensboro. Gretna Va just above Danville on Rt 29  Next match is last weekend (Fri-Sat) in September.

I can recomend the Asheville and Charlotte matches as well.

We will also be shooting a ram bash up in Montiplier Va soon will post details on this site.

Best way to figure all of this out is come and observe. Let us know in advance we will try to have a rifle set up for you to try

What boats said!  Drop me a PM with your e-mail address and I will add you to our Chinquapin SV mailing list.  Our next match for CSV well be at our "home range" at Brushy Mtn Club near Gretna, VA on the 25th and 26th (the last Fri and Sat) of September.  You would be most welcome to come and observe and shoot if you so desire!

Welcome Jack! Like yourself, I don't shoot competitively, but rather for fun or hunting. Old singleshot rifles are a blast for either!

Hi there Mr. Jack Hester ...
I think you will feel "right at home" here at the ASSRA forum site.  Why, you say ?  Well, we have our share of "Pan Heads" and yes, some "Shovel Heads" as well.  Great you say, these guys have vintage motorcycles too.   Sorry, NO !  Our pan heads and shovel heads are guys.  Yes, they are vintage in their ways.  Up tights, you mean like are the head bolts torqued down, well kinda like that.

No Jack ... I'm just kidding around   Grin    Grin     Grin  We're actually a group of good guys who like to have a good time when we get to go out with a Single Shot Rifles .
