I have been lurking for a few weeks since I heard about this group from a couple of guys at the range.  I believe one of them edits the magazine.  

That day I was shooting a couple of leverguns.  One was a modern Marlin 1895 that I put a Treebone Carving stock on and did all the other normal things people do to 1895s.  I was trying to get some 405 gr cast bullets sighted in.

The other gun was a 1905 1895 Winchester in 30/40.  This gun had been rebarreled at some point.  I had just restocked it and I put an Xs front sight on it to go with the vintage Redfield peep sight.  For hunting I find the thin white stripe on the Xs helpful in low light.

I currently have two single shots.  One is a first year of production Ruger No 1 in 22-250 with a civilian version of the Redfield sniper scopes used in Vietnam.  I took a nice Javelina with it last year.  The other is a Browning 1885 22-250 that needs some work.  It looks like it spent some tme in a pickup truck gun rack.  Recently I mounted a 3 1/2 x 14 vx III scope I had lying around on it.  I'm going to see how it shoots before I decide what to do with it.  One thing is for sure, it will eventuall get a Treebone stock on it.  I really don't need two 22-250s so I have been giving some thought to making it a 243.

More in line with the guns discussed here is my newest single shot that is supposed to arrive today.  It is a Pedersoli 45/70 rolling block.  It is the "sporting" model that Cabelas is discontinuing.  They have them on special for $699.  If you are interested in one they still have a few left.  They don't show up on their regular web site, you have to search the gun library.  They tell you to call the gun library but when you do they have no idea what you are talking about.  Eventually you will be transferred to the gun counter since it is a new gun.  I use Cabelas credit cards so I used points too bring the price down further.  Besides I can say "but Honey I bought it with points".

Welcome to the ASSRA. I hope you can take advantage of some of our programs. You will find that you have associated yourself with a fine group of individuals. Please try to find your way to a local ASSRA match, so you can meet some of us in person. 
As you search for single shots, keep an eye out for an original rifle to buy. They can be found for reasonable prices and they generally increase in value as you enjoy shooting them. Those of us who shoot original rifles really enjoy the nostalgia and the history involved. It is also fun to imagine who might have owned and shot the rifle before you acquired it.
