That's what I've been doing as well, and seems the most natural way to record the information, but wanted to see if that is uniformly so at the range.
For this discussion and example, let me limit the information strictly to the elevation adjustment, since the windage adjustment is done in the same procedure.
Lets say the scope is on barrel No. 1 (a 32-40 WCF) and now zeroed at 200 yards, o.k. ? (This is not hypothetical, but actual figures). The elevation knob has been rotated three full revolutions, beginning at "0" and ending at "25" (note that graduation 0 and 25 are the same index line). Here, it should be noted that the stationary post around which the adjusting knob rotates is showing three index lines. In addition to the three full knob rotations, I have rotated the adjusting knob further and stopped at line "8". So in total, I have added 75 graduations (25 X 3), plus an additional 8 graduations, for a grand total of 83 graduations of elevation, after beginning at zero.
We should note that we are not talking about "clicks", since each graduation line is spaced two click apart and a "click" is equal to a 1/4 M.O.A. adjustment.
Having said all that, the question now becomes "How does one record the elevation in the above example in his or hers shooter record book?
What I've done is record + 3.08, but the example could also be recorded as + 83, just as well.
How would each of you two guys record the above example ?
If someone were to record M.O.A. instead, their recorded note would be + 166 quarters of M.O.A. ( 41 1/2 M.O.A. ) adjustment on the scope elevation knob.
